The new Supergirl movie will begin with a tragic event: the death of Ruthye Marye Knoll’s father, Elias. Actor Ferdinand Kingsley will play Elias, a farmer whose murder sends his daughter on a galaxy-spanning quest for revenge. This storyline is based on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, and it’s the event that sets the entire story in motion.
The newest trailer finally shows Elias, and quickly reveals what happens to him. We first see him on his home planet, then in a series of clashes with Krem of the Yellow Hills, the villain from the Supergirl series, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. The trailer depicts Elias being killed by Krem, with his daughter, Ruthye (Eve Ridley), witnessing the violent event.

In the original comic, Elias was an ordinary person who was murdered after he didn’t laugh at a joke told by Krem.

This cruel act forces Ruthye to leave her planet and seek assistance from someone powerful enough to help her get revenge. She discovers Kara Zor-El, who is sadly celebrating her 23rd birthday by drinking on a planet orbiting a red sun.

David Kingsley, famous for his roles in Apple TV+’s Silo and Prime Video’s Reacher, appears in a short but crucial part in the narrative.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl features Milly Alcock in the title role. The film also stars Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham and David Corenswet as Clark Kent. It’s the second movie in the new DC Universe created by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and will be released in theaters on June 26th.
You can see the showdown between Elias Knoll and Krem of the Yellow Hills in the Supergirl trailer, beginning at 1 minute and 12 seconds.
Supergirl’s Catalyst Will Make the Story Very Emotional
Everything we’ve seen from Supergirl suggests this movie will be the most emotionally powerful film in the DC Universe so far. The death of Elias isn’t just setting up a typical revenge story; it’s leading to something much bigger. The trailer shows Kara in a very dark place when Ruthye finds her – she’s drinking on a planet with a red sun and clearly hiding from a hidden threat.
The pursuit of Krem sends her on a journey that will force her to face everything she’s been through, and the movie promises to show her vulnerability and pain in a very honest way. It’s likely to be an emotional experience for viewers, so tissues might be a good idea.
The trailer hints at a deeply moving story, particularly through brief scenes of Krypton’s destruction, which will be interwoven with Kara and Ruthye’s journey. We’ll finally understand the reasons behind Kara’s struggles with alcohol, the painful losses she’s experienced, and how her grief connects to the girl she’s now protecting. Adding to the emotional weight, the trailer reveals Krypto being struck by a poisoned arrow from Krem. It’s clear this movie won’t shy away from powerful, heartbreaking moments.
Kara is facing immense emotional turmoil: her friend is nearing death, a child is pleading for help, and she’s struggling with her own past. All this is deeply connected to the tragic death of a farmer and the impact it has on his daughter, Elias, making his loss particularly meaningful to the story.
