Record of Lodoss War Is Officially Back With New 2026 WEBTOON Release

This beloved anime fantasy from the late 1980s is making a comeback after more than three decades.

Kadokawa is teaming up with WEBTOON’s Line Digital Frontier to launch Studio White, a company focused on creating online comics based on Kadokawa’s popular Japanese series. These official webcomics will be released globally, with production assistance from the art studio Redice Studio.

A new webcomic series continuing the story of Ryo Mizuno’s Record of Lodoss War will begin on May 9, 2026. It will launch first in Korean, followed shortly by releases in English, Japanese, French, Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian.

Besides the upcoming new Record of Lodoss War series, Studio White is also creating original spinoffs based on works by Reki Kawahara (with illustrations by abec), Hajime Kanzaka (illustrated by Rui Araizumi), and Noboru Yamaguchi (with art by Eiji Usatsuka).

Series creator Ryo Mizuno expressed his excitement in a recent press release about the reimagining of Record of Lodoss War as a WEBTOON comic, noting it’s been over thirty years since the original story began.

This story delves into a previously unexplored part of the war, something you haven’t seen in other novels. I came up with the initial idea and I’m confident the production team will do a great job bringing the characters and setting to life. I’m excited to read it myself and see how the battles play out in this unique, scrolling format. I hope both longtime fans and new readers will enjoy it and that it will be a good entry point into the world of fantasy.
