Everyone is eagerly awaiting season 4 of Reacher after Alan Ritchson’s action-packed performance in the show. Since its 2022 debut, Reacher on Prime Video has become a standout series – a welcome change from the earlier Jack Reacher films starring Tom Cruise. Its popularity is clear with the announcement of a Neagley spinoff, proving that Reacher is now a full-fledged franchise.
With Alan Ritchson becoming a more prominent actor and another show on the horizon, fans worried it would take a long time for season 4 of Reacher to arrive. However, Ritchson has confirmed the new season will be released in 2026. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for the Neagley series.
The renewal of Reacher for a 2026 season is fantastic news for fans and will likely keep the show’s success going after three popular seasons on Prime Video. But the upcoming fourth season also sets the stage for something really interesting: a major showdown between five of the biggest action heroes currently starring in streaming series.
Prime Video will release season 2 of Cross between February and March 2026. The series, starring Aldis Hodge, is based on James Patterson’s novels and follows a detective battling his personal demons while investigating disturbing crimes in Washington state. In May 2026, Prime Video will also debut Jack Ryan: Ghost War, a full-length continuation of the Jack Ryan TV series starring John Krasinski and inspired by the Tom Clancy character. This new installment essentially acts as a fifth season and renews the rivalry between Jack Ryan and Reacher on Amazon.
The fight for viewers also plays out on streaming services like Netflix. In February 2026, the third season of Gabriel Basso’s The Night Agent premiered, continuing the adaptation of Matthew Quirk’s novel about an FBI agent who stops complex plots against the U.S. Just two months later, Netflix released a new TV series based on Man of Fire, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking on the role originally played by Denzel Washington as John Creasy, a former Special Forces soldier created by A.J. Quinnell.
Along with Reacher, these series are the most popular and well-regarded action thrillers available on streaming services right now. They’re all based on novels and feature strong, troubled heroes driven by a desire for revenge or justice – or both. With so many shows in the same genre, some overlap is inevitable, but the fact that all five are releasing new seasons in 2026 will make for intense competition. It won’t just be a battle between the leads – Reacher, Ryan, Cross, Sutherland, and Creasy – but also between the streaming platforms, Prime Video and Netflix.
Who Reacher’s Biggest Rival Will Be In 2026’s Big Action Thriller Showdown
As a huge fan of action cinema, I’m telling you, Jack Reacher is really leading the pack right now. It feels like he’s the one to beat when we look ahead to 2026 and all the big action movies coming out. Looking at how his competitors have done so far, it’s clear which other stars could actually challenge him for the top spot.
The initial release of Man on Fire on Netflix received mixed reviews, earning a 62% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and not quite matching the quality of the original book and movie. Meanwhile, season 3 of Netflix’s other 2026 action series, The Night Agent, recovered strongly from a somewhat controversial second season, achieving a high 86% critics’ score and offering what many consider its strongest episodes to date.
The second season of Cross received very different reactions, with critics loving it (95%) but audiences being much less impressed (55%). This leaves Jack Ryan as the stronger performer. Throughout its four seasons, Jack Ryan has generally scored in the 70s and 80s, providing a good starting point for Jack Ryan: Ghost War. However, the new, full-length movie is a different story. It’s hard to predict how it will do – it could be a success thanks to its shorter length, or it could fail like the previous Chris Pine film.
All three seasons of Reacher have received excellent reviews, consistently scoring above 92% with critics. Unless the show’s quality drastically drops, it’s likely to perform better than the 2026 action thrillers The Night Agent, Cross, and Man on Fire. The biggest competition will probably come from Jack Ryan, which is adopting a more movie-like style that could give it an advantage. However, it’s almost guaranteed that in 2026, the most popular action thriller on streaming will feature a character named Jack.
