ABC’s new crime drama, created by Robert Doherty and based on Carl Hiaasen’s 1987 novel Double Whammy, debuted on March 3rd. The show features Scott Speedman as R.J. Decker, a former newspaper photographer and convict trying to rebuild his life as a private investigator in South Florida. Jaina Lee Ortiz, Kevin Rankin, Adelaide Clemens, and Bevin Bru also star in the series.
As a Netflix watcher, I’ve noticed some shows take a little while to really hook me – you need to get through a few episodes before you’re invested. Before its release, The Super Mario Bros. Movie didn’t suggest it would include characters beyond the Mario universe. While there were small nods to games like Duck Hunt and Punch-Out!!, the movie primarily featured characters from the Mario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi series.

Inspired by the success of films like The Matrix, which explored the idea of reality being digitally constructed, Carter created Harsh Realm, a series that combined military action with science fiction. It was a risky move, but Carter’s reputation was expected to attract viewers. Unfortunately, the show didn’t perform as well as the network hoped, and it was canceled after only three of its nine episodes aired. Despite this, Harsh Realm remains a compelling and often overlooked series, suggesting it was simply released before its time.
With new sci-fi shows like Apple TV’s version of Neuromancer and the continuation of The Expanse coming soon, it seemed likely Paramount would invest heavily in the genre. However, the cancellation of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy suggests otherwise, despite the potential for success.

However, he’s become a very busy producer lately, with around 13 projects in development where he’s credited as an executive producer. His newest project is already receiving excellent reviews.
The movie Project Hail Mary performed very well during its opening weekend. While it’s too early to say if it will be profitable overall, the strong start indicates it’s likely to be a success. Predictably, discussions about a sequel, Project Hail Mary 2, have already begun.
