Milly Alcock stars as Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) in the new DCU film, directed by Craig Gillespie. This movie will fully introduce audiences to her version of the character, after a quick appearance in last year’s Superman film. In that cameo, Kara playfully stumbled into Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, briefly interacted with Krypto the Superdog, and then vanished.
Milly Alcock may have accidentally revealed a major scene from the upcoming film, due out June 26th. The reveal involves a surprise appearance by a major DC superhero. While fans predicted this character might show up, they didn’t know how or how important the role would be. Thanks to Alcock, we now know the cameo will happen and will be significant.

During a recent press event before the first look at the Supergirl trailer was released, Alcock was asked about the most challenging scene she filmed. Her response confirmed that David Corenswet‘s Superman will appear in the movie, and revealed some surprising details. Alcock explained that the difficult scene involved speaking Kryptonian with Superman, and that she wasn’t even wearing the Supergirl suit during filming.
It was a really difficult day – it was only 2 degrees outside. He immediately took on a huge challenge. Everything that happened was in Kryptonian, the whole thing was, yeah… entirely in Kryptonian.
The fact that Kara was speaking only Kryptonian and wasn’t wearing her suit suggests a flashback to the past. Seeing Kara without her costume and unable to speak English points to a younger version of the character, likely shortly after arriving on Earth and before becoming the Supergirl viewers know. This scene probably shows Kara and her cousin meeting for the very first time.

It’s understandable that Kara would struggle to communicate at first. Unlike Clark, who was raised on Earth from a baby, she arrived from Krypton speaking only her native language. It would be difficult for her to connect with Clark, as he probably doesn’t know much Kryptonian. The new trailer suggests this scene is a flashback because Kara is only shown without her Supergirl suit during or before Krypton was destroyed. Given that Supergirl is primarily a space-based story, any scenes appearing to be on Earth are likely from the past.
The movie is based on the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which reveals that Kara was sent to Earth to protect Kal-El after Krypton was destroyed. However, she arrived too late and found him already grown up and living on his own. The film might show us their first encounter. But, James Gunn has stated that Supergirl is younger than Clark in the new DC Universe, so that part of the comic’s story could be changed in the movie.
Supergirl Will Feature More Exciting Characters
Superman isn’t the only familiar face appearing in Supergirl. The movie features a large cast of characters from across the galaxy, beginning with Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young alien whose difficult past drives the story. Ruthye’s father is killed by Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, and her search for justice is what brings Kara into the main adventure.
Jason Momoa is now playing Lobo, a character he’s wanted to portray for a long time. After several years as Aquaman in the previous DC Universe, he’s joining the new DC Universe through this role as an interstellar bounty hunter. While Lobo isn’t part of the original Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book, James Gunn decided to include him in the movie’s storyline.
A short preview of Lobo released before the movie suggested he’ll be a key character. Fans were thrilled to see Jason Momoa as Lobo – complete with a cigar, pale complexion, and his signature motorcycle – and it greatly increased anticipation for the film.
David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham will play Superman’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze, in flashback scenes. Adding Superman to an already impressive cast makes the lineup even stronger.
