HBO’s Lanterns Full Trailer Officially Released

Hal Jordan and John Stewart’s DC Universe arrival is closer than ever.

James Gunn’s DC Universe is moving forward with a new TV series focusing on the Green Lantern Corps. The official trailer for the upcoming HBO drama, titled Lanterns, has just been released. You can watch it below.

I’m really excited about the upcoming HBO show, Lanterns. From what I understand, it’s going to focus on two Green Lanterns – Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and a newer character, John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre. It sounds like it’ll be cool to see a seasoned hero mentoring someone new. And the creative team is fantastic – Chris Mundy is showrunning, with Damon Lindelof and Tom King also executive producing. It’s shaping up to be something special!

This will be the first time audiences see Chandler as Hal Jordan since the 2011 film Green Lantern, which starred Ryan Reynolds. John’s portrayal of Hal in Lanterns will be the character’s first live-action appearance, and the actor, previously known for his role in Krypton, will bring him to life.

The first season of Lanterns is a much-awaited show from the first phase of the new DC Universe, planned for 2026. In theaters, DC Studios will release Supergirl on June 26th and Clayface on October 23rd.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Peter Mundy explained that the new series Lanterns will use two different time periods to tell its story. The show will jump between events that happened in 2016 and what’s currently happening in 2026.

Mundy explained that the show will unfold two separate mysteries. One will be revealed over the course of the series, and another is planned for a future arc in 2026. The storyline for 2016 will center around a shooting that takes place in Rushville, though details about the 2026 arc remain unknown.

Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as Guy Gardner, a character he first played in the 2025 film directed by James Gunn. He’ll be an important character in the Lanterns series, appearing in multiple episodes throughout the season. Mundy described Gardner as “fabulously obnoxious.”

I’m still waiting to hear if Lanterns will get a second season, but it sounds like the show is definitely going to connect with the bigger DC Universe! I just learned that Pierre is already scheduled to return as his character in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow in 2027 – they’re actually filming it right now in Atlanta, Georgia.

HBO’s Lanterns is set to premiere on Sunday, August 16, and will also stream on HBO Max.
