Ryan Gosling’s movie, Project Hail Mary, has become incredibly popular, first in theaters and now on streaming services around the world.
I was so excited to see that Project Hail Mary is currently the number one movie people are renting on Amazon’s Premium Video On Demand service! As of May 18, 2026, it’s beating out a lot of other great films – the rest of the top ten includes titles like The Housemaid, The Devil Wears Prada, Avatar: Fire and Ash, Shelter, Greenland 2: Migration, Scream 7, Nuremberg, GOAT, and Hamnet.
Across several countries, Project Hail Mary is currently the top-selling book in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, and Sweden.
I’ve been checking the numbers, and it looks like the film adaptation of Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary is doing really well! It’s currently at number four on Apple TV’s worldwide VOD chart, which is fantastic news for fans of the book and anyone looking for a good sci-fi watch.
The top three movies right now are Avatar: Fire and Ash, The Housemaid, and Hoppers. Completing the top ten are The Devil Wears Prada, Nuremberg, GOAT, Greenland 2: Migration, Shelter, and Hamnet.
As a huge movie and book fan, I’m absolutely thrilled to see how well Project Hail Mary is doing around the world! It’s really taking off in so many places – Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, and a ton more. It’s currently number one on Apple’s VOD chart in the US, and that’s just amazing to see. It’s fantastic that people everywhere are loving it as much as I do!
Author Weir has already had another novel be adapted for the big screen: The Martian in 2015.
Released just over ten years ago, Project Hail Mary was a huge success in theaters, earning $668 million and becoming one of the year’s biggest hits. It was second only to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which made $964 million.
Beyond being a commercial success, Project Hail Mary has received rave reviews from both critics and general audiences. It currently holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and a 95% audience score on the Popcornmeter, earning it a ‘Certified Fresh’ designation.
Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a teacher and biologist who wakes up with amnesia and must fight to survive after everyone else on his spaceship dies. The film also features Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, Milana Vayntrub, Priya Kansara, Malachi Kirby, Liz Kingsman, Mia Soteriou, Orion Lee, and Michelle Greenidge.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller—the team behind films like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, and the Spider-Verse movies—directed Project Hail Mary, based on a screenplay by Drew Goddard. They also produced the film alongside Ryan Gosling, Alan Weir, Amy Pascal, Aditya Sood, and Rachel O’Connor.
Following its theatrical release in March 2026, Project Hail Mary became available to rent or buy digitally on May 10th. The Blu-ray and DVD versions were released on August 11th. As of now, it’s not yet known when the film will be available to stream on Prime Video.
