Matt LeBlanc, famous for his role as Joey on the hit show Friends, is set to star in and help produce a new CBS series called Flint. According to Variety, he’ll play a weary detective with the LAPD. While CBS hasn’t officially approved the show yet, it could be part of their 2027-2028 season if they do.
After Friends ended, Matt LeBlanc continued to focus on comedy. He appeared in the short-lived Friends spin-off Joey on NBC, which was cancelled during its second season in 2006 (all episodes, including unaired ones, are available on the official Friends YouTube channel). His biggest postFriends role came with Episodes, a Showtime/BBC series where he played a fictionalized version of himself. The show ran for five seasons and won him a Golden Globe. More recently, he starred in the CBS sitcom Man With a Plan*, which aired for four seasons from 2016 to 2020.
I’m really intrigued by this new show, Flint. It’s being billed as a drama, but honestly, the basic idea sounds like it could have some funny moments. The main character, who I’m guessing is named Flint, is about to retire, but the city unexpectedly asks him to stay on for another five years! Apparently, he tries everything to get fired, thinking that’ll solve the problem, but ironically, all his rule-breaking just makes him a better police officer. It’s a cool concept!

The premise of trying to get fired sounds like something out of a comedy, but CBS is bringing in experienced dramatic talent for a show called Flint. Evan Katz, a writer and producer known for the action series 24, is heading the project. Interestingly, Katz also created the sci-fi comedy Special Unit 2, so the tone of Flint is still uncertain. The show could showcase Justin LeBlanc’s comedic skills, or it might feature him in a more serious role as an aging detective.
If “Flint” is picked up for a new season, Matthew LeBlanc will be joining several of his former “Friends” co-stars who currently have shows on television. Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel, is preparing for the fifth season of “The Morning Show” on Apple TV+. Lisa Kudrow is starring in the final season of “The Comeback,” which airs on HBO every Sunday. David Schwimmer, known as Ross, was a lead in Disney+’s “Goosebumps,” though it was canceled after two seasons in 2025. Courteney Cox (Monica) hasn’t had a regular role on a TV series since the end of “Shining Vale” in 2023, but she recently starred in “Scream 7,” which broke box office records for the franchise.
Matthew Perry, known for playing Chandler, sadly passed away in October 2023. Shortly after, his friend and co-star Matt LeBlanc shared a heartfelt message remembering him.
