Be warned, this contains spoilers for Season 5 of For All Mankind. The show’s creators have hinted at how much further into our solar system future seasons will take humanity. For All Mankind, the Apple TV+ sci-fi series, has followed the story of people traveling to and building colonies on the moon and Mars. Now, Season 5 focuses on the residents of Mars as they try to become independent from Earth.
Now that Mars has been successfully colonized, season 5 of For All Mankind is focusing on a new space race to Titan, one of Saturn’s moons. Both Helios Aerospace and the Soviet Kuragin group are sending missions to Titan to search for possible life. Since For All Mankind is planned to conclude after season 6, many viewers believe the story will likely end with the exploration of Titan.
Liam Crowley from ScreenRant interviewed Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert, the executive producers of For All Mankind, to discuss what’s next for the show after season 5. They suggested that while the focus right now is on Titan, viewers will get a preview of the show’s future direction in the coming episodes. You can find their exact comments below.
As a big fan of ‘For All Mankind,’ I’ve been thinking about those Titan missions they’re showing right now – and there seem to be a couple happening at once! It’s got me wondering if the show is building towards these missions being the final, ultimate goal of the whole series, especially with season six being the last one. Are they slowly setting things up so that the Titans are where everything ends?
I don’t think it’s accurate to say that. From the start, the show aimed to explore beyond just the moon and Mars, and Titan represents that expansion. It’s a natural progression of what we’ve been building towards. We’ll definitely be seeing more of Titan this season, and viewers who have been following the story will get to see what happens next in the upcoming episodes. I can’t share specifics just yet, but Titan is a key part of our plans.
So, just to be clear, the Mars storyline is planned to span multiple seasons. We began exploring Mars in season three and are still developing it in season five. Are you suggesting that the show might eventually take us to locations other than just Titan?
Ben Nedivi: Now you’re really digging.
You never really know what the future holds. People are naturally curious and always want to see what’s next, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
I was hoping to ask about Jupiter, but it seems there aren’t any current plans to explore it.
Matt Wolpert: Yeah, that would be a tough one. I think you’d immediately be eradicated to death.
The first two seasons of For All Mankind centered on NASA establishing a lunar base called Jamestown, and season 3 shifted the focus to Mars. Currently, in season 5, the story of the Mars colony, Happy Valley, is continuing, with Dev Ayesa and the Helios corporation planning to build a large city there. At the same time, Helios and Kuragin are traveling to Titan.
As Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi explained, the show For All Mankind won’t be sending people to settle on Jupiter. The same goes for Saturn and its moon, Titan. While For All Mankind will explore Titan for potential life and build a space station there, it’s impossible to actually colonize gas giants like Saturn and Jupiter.
Season 6 of For All Mankind will advance the timeline by another ten years, continuing the show’s pattern. This jump forward will likely bring technological advancements allowing for human exploration of Pluto and the outer solar system. As the final season, For All Mankind intends to explore how far this space race can go, leaving the question of whether humans will ultimately reach Pluto and beyond unanswered.
Viewers are deeply connected to the characters in For All Mankind, but what really makes the show exciting is its exploration of how far humanity can go in space when people from different countries and companies collaborate.
While Mars could be the furthest humans ever settle, the Apple TV+ show For All Mankind suggests space exploration in the series might eventually reach the very edges of our solar system before it concludes in season 6.
