Disney Is Finally Setting Up the Best Sith Battle in Star Wars History

The story features a massive showdown, potentially the biggest in the franchise’s fifty-year run. It centers on the main villain, a Sith Lord, who is trying to restore his criminal organization on the remote planet of Janix. But when he encounters the Empire, everything is threatened, and he’s forced to confront a danger unlike any he’s faced before.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been completely hooked on the latest episodes of Maul – Shadow Lord, and let me tell you, things are getting really exciting. For years, we’ve all been hoping to see Darth Maul go head-to-head with a certain other Sith Lord, and the show seems to be finally making it happen. All those fan theories floating around before the series even started? They’re looking more and more accurate. It looks like we’re finally going to witness the first ever battle between Darth Maul and the one, the only, Darth Vader!

Star Wars Is Setting Up a Darth Vader/Darth Maul Duel

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really excited about the return of a classic villain! It seems like Darth Maul is gearing up for an epic showdown with Darth Vader. The latest episodes of Shadow Lord show Maul being forced into hiding as the Empire closes in on Janix, hunting him down. It’s setting the stage for what promises to be an incredible battle!

A masked Inquisitor named Marrok is heading the hunt for Maul, but he doesn’t manage to capture him. During the search, Marrok discovers two individuals who survived the execution of Order 66 and are in hiding on the planet.

At the conclusion of episode six, Marrok’s investigation predictably leads him to contact someone powerful. We see him informing an unknown figure through a holographic communication, relaying what he’s discovered. Though the conversation is private, it’s clear from his address of “my lord” that he’s speaking to a single, important person.

He’s clearly talking about Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine’s most trusted enforcer. If that’s the case, it suggests Darth Vader will be the next Imperial operative sent after Darth Maul.

For longtime fans of Star Wars, this is a thrilling development. The characters have a history, including a memorable moment where Maul almost collided with a young Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine while speeding in his vehicle.

Despite being major players in the Clone Wars, Maul and Anakin Skywalker never actually fought each other. Maul did battle Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin’s master, and fighting Anakin would complete a significant achievement: having fought three of the most powerful Jedi in history.

This fight isn’t just for the fans; it’s a necessary confrontation. Darth Maul and Darth Vader have a deep and complex past that needs to be addressed.

Darth Vader and Darth Maul Have Unsettled Business in Star Wars

A duel between Darth Vader and Darth Maul would be incredibly personal due to their shared history with Anakin Skywalker. Maul significantly impacted Anakin’s life by killing Qui-Gon Jinn, who could have become a vital father figure and mentor to the young Jedi. Obi-Wan ended up training Anakin, despite being young and less experienced himself. If Maul had lost on Naboo, and Qui-Gon had lived, Anakin’s destiny could have taken a very different path.

Darth Maul also holds a deep resentment towards Darth Vader. Having been Sidious’s former apprentice and discarded after losing on Naboo, he’d likely be extremely envious of Vader’s favored position with the Emperor. It’s also possible Maul suspects that Darth Vader is actually Anakin Skywalker.

Maul believed he’d had a vision showing Anakin Skywalker would bring ruin to the galaxy. He tried everything he could to prevent this future, but his efforts failed when Ahsoka Tano wouldn’t assist him. Even a year later, Maul remained furious about his loss and was consumed by a desire for revenge against the Jedi, whom he blamed for the galaxy’s suffering.

A fight between Darth Vader and Darth Maul would be incredible, and it feels inevitable that these two powerful Sith Lords will clash in future episodes. However, fans of Star Wars already know the outcome, which is unfortunate for one of them.

Star Wars Already Spoiled the Victor of Vader and Maul’s Duel

When considering a fight between Darth Maul and Darth Vader, Vader would undoubtedly win. While Maul is a formidable opponent, he’s no match for Vader at his strongest, as Vader has fully embraced his power as a Sith Lord. Maul himself understood he couldn’t defeat Vader on his own.

That’s why he tried to team up with Ahsoka Tano. He felt they were the only ones who could stop Anakin before it was too late.

Having fully embraced the dark side as Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker is now incredibly powerful. His rage, sadness, and inner turmoil have made him one of the galaxy’s most formidable beings. Even Darth Maul, who also draws strength from negative emotions, wouldn’t be able to defeat him.

Darth Maul subtly foreshadowed the result of his fight with Darth Vader in a different Star Wars story. During Star Wars: Rebels, which happens years after Maul Shadow Lord, Maul told Ezra Bridger that he would be defeated. He doesn’t explain what he means, but viewers are left to assume he’s speaking from personal experience, likely remembering a past loss to Vader.

Everyone knows Darth Vader won’t actually kill Maul when they fight. Maul is destined to die on Tatooine years later, as shown in his own series. However, losing to a stronger Sith like Vader would be a compelling way to move Maul’s story forward. It would end the first season of Shadow Lord with Maul realizing he’s no match for the Empire’s power.

As a longtime Star Wars fan, I’m genuinely excited about what might be one of the most incredible Sith clashes ever depicted. The upcoming issues of Maul – Shadow Lord promise a showdown for the ages: Darth Maul versus Darth Vader! This isn’t just fan service; it feels like a pivotal moment that could drastically change Maul’s story, and it’s a battle I suspect will stay with readers long after they finish the arc.

You can now watch Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord on Disney+. New episodes are released every Monday.
