Many American animated series try to copy anime, but the best ones are just as captivating and well-made. The truly exceptional series are genuine works of art, proving how much anime has influenced them and establishing themselves as classics.
As a huge fan, I was really hoping for some happiness in the latest episode of House of the Dragon, but honestly, it just ripped my heart out! Even though Rhaenyra finally got the Iron Throne, this season has been relentlessly sad. We just saw her lose Jacaerys in the Battle of the Gullet, which came after losing Lucerys way back in season one. And sadly, it seems like Rhaenyra’s struggles aren’t over yet – she keeps facing loss after loss.
Although the popular volleyball anime is still a classic, many other sports anime offer even more compelling stories. Some trade teamwork for intense psychological drama, while others stand out with unique animation or focus on the challenges of individual athletes. Beyond the typical sports story, five anime truly shine, providing deep character development and thought-provoking themes.
Premiering on April 4th of this year, Daemons of the Shadow Realm is already considered one of the best anime series of the year, even though it hasn’t finished airing yet. While the show has its own unique story and world-building, fans of Fullmetal Alchemist will find familiar themes – and it’s not just because the same creator worked on both! Fullmetal Alchemist centers around the strong bond between brothers Edward and Alphonse. Similarly, Daemons of the Shadow Realm explores the complicated relationship between siblings Yuru and Asa.
The best supernatural anime don’t just rely on cool powers – they use those elements to help us understand their characters better. These shows go beyond what Jujutsu Kaisen offers with more developed personalities, a stronger sense of place, deeper meaning, and stories that make more sense. And often, the action sequences are just as exciting!
Carnage is an especially dangerous villain formed when a deadly alien symbiote bonded with the serial killer Cletus Kasady. Green Goblin is also incredibly dangerous, a sociopath with split personalities – including Norman Osborn’s alter ego, who is always prepared to kill Spider-Man.
Sony is releasing the entire eight-season Outlander series on DVD September 22nd. This collection includes 37 discs and costs $250.99. It’s currently available for pre-order on Amazon.
As a huge fan of the original Avatar, I was thrilled when Avatar: The Way of Water finally arrived over ten years later in 2022. And it didn’t disappoint! It received amazing reviews, including another Oscar for Visual Effects – seriously, the effects were stunning. It racked up a ton of other nominations and awards too. What really surprised me was that audiences actually loved this one more than the first film. At least, according to Rotten Tomatoes, where it scored a fantastic 92% with viewers (critics gave it a still-good, but slightly lower, 76%).
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon first appeared on AMC and has been available to stream on AMC+ since it premiered in 2023. It’s part of the larger The Walking Dead universe, which also includes series like Fear the Walking Dead (2015–2023), The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020–2021), Tales of the Walking Dead (2022), The Walking Dead: Dead City (2023–present), and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (2024). Many fans consider it the best of these shows, praising Norman Reedus’s performance as Daryl.
Like other Christopher Nolan films, The Odyssey was made to be seen in a specific way. It’s the first movie filmed entirely with IMAX 70mm cameras, aiming for an incredibly immersive experience that truly captures the film’s vastness on a large screen. This impact won’t translate well to home viewing, even though Nolan often maintains the original aspect ratio on Blu-ray and 4K releases.
