‘Family Guy’ Spin-Off Centered on Stewie Griffin Officially Happening at Fox, Per Seth MacFarlane

Seth MacFarlane’s hit show, Family Guy, still makes audiences laugh and sometimes even cry, even after all these years. Since its debut on Fox in 1999 (with a few brief cancellations), the show is currently in its 24th season, constantly putting the Griffin family in hilarious and over-the-top situations. MacFarlane created the series and also provides the voices for many of its most popular characters, including Peter Griffin, his son Stewie, the dog Brian, and the often-suggestive Quagmire.

Despite being on the air for over 25 years, Family Guy has only had one spin-off series: The Cleveland Show, which focused on Cleveland Brown and ran from 2009 to 2013. Creator Seth MacFarlane, who continues to work on other projects, is now developing a second spin-off, this time centered around another member of the Griffin family.

Fox has ordered two seasons of a new animated spin-off called Stewie, based on the popular character from Family Guy. The show will focus on Stewie Griffin, the youngest and most mischievous member of the Griffin family. It’s scheduled to debut on Fox in the 2027-28 television season, with episodes available to stream the next day on Hulu and Disney+ internationally. While most animated shows on Fox have 15 episodes per season, Stewie will likely have a few less.

Seth MacFarlane will reprise his role as the baby Stewie Griffin in a new series. Stewie gets kicked out of his old preschool and has to attend a less-than-stellar school, where he’ll meet a whole new group of classmates. There’s also a very old class turtle who has eccentric ideas about everything! Things quickly get chaotic, but Stewie starts using his futuristic gadgets to take everyone on space and time adventures. Importantly, this new story won’t affect Stewie’s adventures in the regular Family Guy episodes.

MacFarlane playfully suggested that he only appeared to work closely with Fox to get the Stewie show approved, offering a lighthearted comment on its greenlight.

20th Television Animation

The new Stewie series appears to be focusing on a single, continuous story throughout its first two seasons, giving viewers one complete adventure for the character. While the original Family Guy sometimes had storylines that stretched over a few episodes, most installments were self-contained, offering a new adventure each week. While that format might still be present in Stewie’s show, it seems the overall approach will be a bit different this time around.

Despite the show’s changes, Stewie will still be the same hilariously scheming baby genius, using his intelligence and tech skills to shake things up for his new classmates. This new setting also lets viewers meet a fresh group of characters, separate from the Griffin family and their usual friends. While the voice actors haven’t been revealed yet, expect plenty of funny voices from Seth MacFarlane and a cast of well-known stars.
