MGK Was Apparently Supposed To Audition For Sinners, But He Turned It Down For One Reason

Among many movies, fewer have left a lasting impact like the 2025 release of Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler. This film not only raked in substantial profits at the box office but also sparked widespread discussions on social media platforms. One element that has garnered praise is its impressive ensemble cast, spearheaded by Michael B. Jordan. It’s intriguing to note that rapper MGK (formerly Machine Gun Kelly) was offered a role in the movie, but he reportedly declined for a significant reason.

Machine Gun Kelly, known as Colson Baker, has been featured in movies such as “Bird Box”, “Project Power” and “Midnight in the Switchgrass”. He also spearheaded his own film titled “Good Mourning”, released in 2022, by acting, writing, directing, and producing it. The musician recently sat down on an episode of “The Pat McAfee Show” where he talked about his new music and his future acting endeavors. Baker mentioned that he has declined several film offers and, regarding Ryan Coogler’s film, Baker did not audition because it required him to use a racial slur.

Just as I was meant to try out for the role of a vampire, they had arranged the auditions. It was the role of the second vampire who dwells within the house, the one whose character consumes the family. However, during the audition, I was asked to use a racial slur, which I refused to do.

Currently, Machine Gun Kelly’s statements about his potential role in the film, as discussed on Pat McAfee’s show (available on YouTube), have not been confirmed by Ryan Coogler or any other involved producers. However, it’s interesting to note that he suggested he was a contender for a part. If Machine Gun Kelly’s character description is accurate, it seems he might have been competing for the role of Bert, which eventually went to Peter Dreimanis from July Talk.

Bert is recognized as a member of a Klan chapter in Clarksdale, Mississippi, which explains why his character uses a racial slur. Eventually, both Bert and his wife Joan (played by Lola Kirke) become the initial victims of the Irish vampire Remmick, skillfully portrayed by Jack O’Connell in the film “Sinners“. Taking on this role in the vampire saga might have been a significant addition to Colson Baker’s acting resume. However, it appears that the actor was determined to uphold his values during this specific instance.

I Rewatched Sinners, And I Think I Figured Out Why I Didn’t Love It As Much The First Time

Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) would have perfectly embodied the role of a vampire given his distinctive gothic style he’s maintained throughout his career. His former fiancée, Megan Fox, also hinted at their shared practice of exchanging small amounts of blood, which she explained as part of ritualistic activities. This is notably different from Remmick’s motive for drinking blood, which is to amass a group of followers with similar beliefs.

Ryan Coogler’s highly praised movie “Sinners” offers numerous strengths, yet one stands out: its innovative use of vampires. These vampires from the South aren’t merely sources of trouble and fear; instead, they symbolize unending cycles and enduring legacies. It’s thought-provoking to ponder how Machine Gun Kelly might have portrayed one of these nighttime beings, but at this juncture, he appears content with not being involved.
