‘Redux Redux’ Scores 97% on Rotten Tomatoes

A fantastic sci-fi action thriller just hit theaters, and it’s surprisingly under the radar. Released last week, the film has received rave reviews, earning a remarkable 97% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating. MovieWeb calls it a thrilling revenge story that completely reimagines the multiverse concept.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once have made the idea of multiverses popular with moviegoers. While Marvel hasn’t quite lived up to the potential of this concept (though future films like Avengers: Doomsday might change that), this month’s film successfully uses it to tell a deeply personal story. The film centers on a mother’s quest to find her daughter’s killer, and she’s prepared to travel through different universes to do so.

The sci-fi action film Redux Redux is directed and written by Kevin and Matthew McManus, the award-winning team behind popular Netflix shows like American Vandal and Cobra Kai. Michaela McManus leads the cast as a hero who travels between universes, supported by Stella Marcus, Jeremy Holm, Jim Cummings, Grace Van Dien, and Taylor Misiak.

Recent reviews strongly suggest that Redux Redux will become a beloved cult classic. Mark Keizer of MovieWeb particularly applauded the film for taking a tired storytelling approach and making it surprisingly captivating.

Brothers Kevin and Matthew McManus deliver another captivating, low-budget sci-fi film with “Redux Redux.” They cleverly revitalize a well-worn concept – the multiverse – by telling the story of a mother who journeys across alternate realities to kill her daughter’s murderer. This use of multiple universes powerfully represents the relentless and unending nature of a mother’s grief.

The new revenge thriller, Redux Redux, has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 97% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 67 critic reviews. Radio Times highlighted the film’s innovative ideas and energetic synth soundtrack by Paul Koch, praising the filmmakers’ willingness to experiment. Collider called Redux Redux a smart and ambitious take on the multiverse, focusing on the emotional core of the concept rather than getting bogged down in technical details.

I was really struck by what RogerEbert.com had to say about the film – they gave it a fantastic 3.5 out of 4 stars! What resonated with them, and honestly with me too, wasn’t the technical stuff the filmmakers tried to explain, but how beautifully the movie explored the characters’ shared pain and how they found comfort in each other. If you’re curious, Redux Redux is currently showing in a few theaters across the US, and you can find a summary of the story below…

I’m completely gripped by this story! It’s about Irene Kelly, a mother who’s lost everything. Her daughter was murdered, and she’s determined to get justice, no matter what. But she doesn’t just stop at one act of revenge – she’s found a way to travel between different realities, and she’s hunting down the man who killed her daughter in each one. It’s intense, and it’s heartbreaking to watch her become so consumed by vengeance, to the point where I’m worried she’s losing herself in the process.
