CBS News is still undergoing significant changes. After John Dickerson announced he would be leaving the CBS Evening News in January, his co-anchor, Maurice DuBois, has also announced his departure. DuBois will leave sooner than Dickerson, marking another major loss for the news division as CBS continues its restructuring and layoffs.
As I mentioned, after over two decades at CBS, Maurice DuBois is leaving the company. He announced his departure via Instagram and wrote an extensive caption about how much his time at CBS has meant to him. Alongside a carousel of images of moments in the studio and various stories he’s reported on, he explained:
So, December 18th will be my last night anchoring the news at CBS. It’s honestly been the biggest honor of my life! When you add up my time at CBS and before that at WCBS in New York, it comes to 21 years! What a ride. I’ve truly felt privileged to be in your homes every night, sharing the news and, even more importantly, meeting incredible people and telling their stories. I’m leaving with so much gratitude, wonderful friendships, and memories I’ll treasure forever. I’ve got a couple of weeks left, so I hope to see you on The CBS Evening News at 6:30 each night until then.
As the anchor mentioned, his final broadcast on the 2025 TV schedule will be on December 18.
Just nine months after starting as co-anchors for CBS Evening News, DuBois and Dickerson are leaving their positions. CBS hasn’t announced who will replace them, which is a bit surprising. CNN reports that Bari Weiss, the new head of CBS News, is considering candidates from outside the company.
After the anchor announced their departure, CBS News released a statement from Tom Cibrowski, the president and executive editor. He expressed the company’s gratitude for the anchor’s contributions and indicated a desire to collaborate in the future.
We all greatly appreciate Maurice as a journalist and wish him the very best in his future endeavors. I hope we have the opportunity to collaborate again. We’ll share more information about the future of CBS Evening News soon.
These developments happen as CBS is going through significant changes. After the merger with Paramount Skydance, the show CBS Saturday Morning saw some major shifts, including the departure of co-anchors Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson. Other changes have also occurred, such as the closure of the Johannesburg bureau and the departure of several staff members, including LA Bureau Chief Joelle Martinez.
In addition to recent events, there’s been talk about what’s next for The View, including rumors that Gayle King might leave. CBS has stated they haven’t discussed King’s departure and, currently, the show remains as it is. This situation simply shows how much uncertainty and speculation are swirling around right now.
Beyond the news department, CBS is also preparing for the finale of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The show was canceled earlier in 2024 and will broadcast its final episode in May 2026.
The network is experiencing several significant departures, and we’ll share more information as it becomes available.
