The Marvel Cinematic Universe consistently delivers new movies and shows, both in theaters and on Disney+. Everyone is especially excited for the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which promises to be the next major team-up event. Fans are eager to learn more about what’s in store, and one Marvel actor recently hinted at his possible involvement with a mysterious comment.
Details about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday are scarce, leading to lots of fan speculation about what the movie will include. Although the cast has been largely revealed, many viewers anticipate unexpected appearances. Tim Blake Nelson, who plays The Leader, was recently asked by ComicBook about his potential role in the next Avengers film, particularly considering how Captain America: Brave New World ended. He responded evasively, saying:
I can confirm that if I have my way, they won’t have to wait 16 years.
Nelson is keeping details about future appearances under wraps, as Marvel is very careful about spoilers. However, he strongly hinted that he’ll be back relatively soon. It’s unclear if his next appearance will be in Avengers: Doomsday, but he assures fans they won’t have to wait another ten years to see him return to the Marvel universe.
I remember when Tim Roth first showed up as Samuel Sterns in The Incredible Hulk – it felt like ages before we saw him fully transform into The Leader! It finally happened in Brave New World, and wow, did he make an impact. He really drove the whole story forward, and I was genuinely surprised to see how he was even responsible for Bruce Banner’s old friend, Ross, becoming the Red Hulk. It was a fantastic twist!

Disney+ offers streaming access to Marvel Cinematic Universe content, including shows featuring The Leader. A subscription starts at $11.99 per month with ads. You can remove ads for $18.99 a month, or save 16% by paying $189.99 for an annual subscription. See the deal here.
The discussion about Nelson likely started because of a scene after the credits of Captain America 4. In that scene, Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, visits Nelson in prison, and Stern hints at an incoming threat from another world. Many fans thought this was a nod to Doctor Doom, whose appearance was also briefly teased at the end of Fantastic Four: First Steps. Given that The Leader was aware of this villain, it would fit the story if he played a role in the events of Doomsday.
Okay, so here’s the deal: we haven’t gotten a straight answer about Tim Blake Nelson returning as The Leader in the next Avengers movie yet. But Kevin Feige did drop a hint that not all the actors from Doomsday have been shown off so far. That definitely leaves the door open for The Leader to show up somewhere in the film, and honestly, I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
You’ll find out everything about Avengers: Doomsday when it comes to theaters on December 18th of next year, as part of the 2026 film lineup. It’s over a year away, but hopefully we’ll get more details about the movie soon. In the meantime, you can watch Nelson’s Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance on Disney+.
