The new series, Heated Rivalry, is a hit on a popular streaming platform. It’s a passionate story about the developing relationship between two hockey players who are also rivals, Shane Hollander (played by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie). The show is adapted from the novel of the same name by Rachel Reid.
HBO Max has acquired the rights to stream Heated Rivalry in the U.S. and Australia. The show, already available on Crave in Canada, Movistar Plus+ in Spain, and Sky in New Zealand, premiered just nine days after the announcement, on November 28th.
Even with very little time for promotion, data from FlixPatrol shows that Heated Rivalry is the second most-watched series on HBO Max in the U.S. as of November 29th.
The show Heated Rivalry is performing very well, trailing only the new series Welcome to Derry. It has quickly become more popular than other hit HBO shows, including the popular comedies The Chair Company (at number 4) and I Love LA (at number 7).
The new show “Heated Rivalry” started at number two in Australia, just behind “Welcome to Derry” at number one. Interestingly, no other shows currently rank in the same positions on both the U.S. and Australian Top 10 lists.
The show is attracting viewers as much as people predicted based on the strong reaction it received on social media following its November 28th debut. Many people expressed excitement about Heated Rivalry online.
It’s still too early to tell if “Heated Rivalry” will be a big success for HBO Max, with only two of its six episodes released so far. But if it stays in the Top 10 most popular shows over the next month, especially with the finale airing on December 26th, it has a good chance of getting renewed for another season or even a spin-off series.
The show has a lot of potential for future stories. The LGBTQ+ romance is based on just one book out of six in Rachel Reid’s Game Changers series, which features romances with different hockey players. There’s also a sequel to the main couple’s story called The Long Game.
Heated Rivalry has a good chance of becoming very popular. Although critics haven’t officially reviewed it yet, audiences on Rotten Tomatoes have given it a strong 88% rating. Even with a limited release, the show could gain even more viewers if people continue to recommend it to others.
