One Piece Season 3 Has Begun Filming, And I’m So Glad We’ll Be Seeing Way More Of Four Specific Characters

The second season of One Piece is set to release in 2026, but the cast and crew are already hard at work on season three! Filming for the new episodes is currently taking place in Cape Town, South Africa. Along with a sneak peek hinting at the character Portgas D. Ace (Monkey D. Luffy’s brother), it’s great to hear that four characters introduced in season two will play bigger roles in season three.

Let’s begin with a sneak peek. A script for the first episode of One Piece Season 3, called “Where There’s Smoke,” was found in a desert setting alongside a human skull, a Log Pose (used for navigating the Grand Line), and a unique dagger. That dagger actually belongs to the character Ace, who will be played by Xolo Maridueña, known for his role in Cobra Kai, in the upcoming live-action series.

I’m still reeling from all the exciting One Piece news this week! On top of everything else, Netflix announced that Joe Manganiello, Mikaela Hoover, Lera Abova, and Sendhil Ramamurthy will all be series regulars in Season 3, which isn’t a shock if you know the Alabasta arc. Honestly, I’m so thrilled! It means we’ll get to see much more of Manganiello as Crocodile, Hoover as Chopper, Abova as Miss All-Sunday, and Ramamurthy as Nefartari Cobra – their appearances in Season 2 were fantastic. And I’m especially excited to hear we’ll be spending even more time with Charithra Chandran’s Miss Wednesday in the new season!

Okay, as a huge One Piece fan, I’m trying to avoid spoiling anything for newcomers, so I won’t get into why certain characters are getting more focus in Season 3. But I was just revisiting the script for the first episode, penned by Ashley Wigfield and directed by Christoph Schrewe, and I’m pretty confident we’re going to see Luffy and Ace reconnect in Alabasta. The only thing is, things get complicated when Smoker, a Marine Captain voiced by Callum Kerr, shows up. If you remember Season 2, Luffy and Smoker actually first clashed during the Loguetown arc, so expect some tension!
