The popular video game series Far Cry is being adapted into a television show. According to Variety, FX has commissioned the series, which will be developed by Noah Hawley and Rob Mac. Hawley is known for his work with FX on shows like Fargo, Legion, and the recent Alien: Earth.
Because FX is owned by Disney, the show Far Cry will likely be available to stream on both Hulu and Disney+.
According to Variety, the upcoming Far Cry TV series will follow the same format as the video games: each season will feature a completely new story, setting, and characters. While details about the first season are still secret, Mac is confirmed to star.
Mac expressed his excitement about working with Noah Hawley, calling it a dream come true. He also praised Ubisoft for their trust in him and his team, giving them the opportunity to adapt a beloved video game world. He also thanked his colleagues at FX for their ongoing support and encouragement.
Similar to Hawley, Mac has a strong history with FX. He’s the creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and has been a cast member for 17 seasons. He also executive produces and stars in the Emmy-winning docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, which has earned 10 Emmy Awards across its four seasons.
Noah Hawley’s show, Fargo, has been recognized with seven Emmy Awards from a total of seventy nominations over its five seasons. Legion aired for three seasons on FX, and Alien: Earth premiered earlier this year and has already been picked up for a second season.
