Jason Statham and Michelle Monaghan are returning for a new installment on Apple TV+, offering a first glimpse of the sequel to their hugely successful 2023 action comedy. Expected to be another big hit, the film will be available November 21st, perfect for Thanksgiving. It also has the potential to become a holiday favorite on Apple TV+.
The first images show Wahlberg and Monaghan as Dan and Jessica Morgan, along with Zoe Colletti, Van Crosby, Peter Lindsey, Theodore Lindsey, and Reda Elazoura, as well as teasing Kit Harrington as the “mystery figure” from Dan’s past that draws him into another action-packed situation. The full synopsis for the movie reads:
It’s the holidays, and Dan (Mark Wahlberg) has organized a dream vacation for his wife, Jessica (Michelle Monaghan), and their kids in Europe. However, their trip is interrupted when someone from Dan’s past (Kit Harington) appears, forcing him to deal with old issues. What follows is a fast-paced adventure filled with bank robberies, funny mishaps, and exciting car chases, all while the family fights, argues, and grows closer.
‘The Family Plan’ Was a Huge Hit, but Not With Critics

Apple Original Films
The movie *The Family Plan* was a hit thanks to its well-known lead actor, fun action-comedy story, and release during the holiday season when many families were home. It quickly became the most-watched original movie on Apple TV+, debuting at number one worldwide.
I just finished watching *The Family Plan*, and it’s a fun ride! Mark Wahlberg plays Dan Morgan, a seemingly normal dad who’s really good at being a family man. But here’s the twist: he used to be a government hitman! He’s left that life behind, but his past catches up with him, and he has to protect his family while keeping his dangerous history a secret from his wife and kids. It’s a classic ‘man with a secret’ setup, but Wahlberg really sells it.
Critics weren’t impressed with *The Family Plan*, giving it a low 29% score on Rotten Tomatoes. They felt it failed to deliver on the comedy aspect, resulting in uninspired characters and a predictable plot. Audiences were somewhat more forgiving, with a 60% rating, but generally agreed it was only worth watching once.
It doesn’t really matter if the new movie fixes the problems of the first one, because even poorly reviewed films often get a lot of viewers on streaming services. Still, Mark Wahlberg’s fans – who have two other films, *Flight Plan* and *Play Dirty*, coming out next year – will likely enjoy this one when it premieres on Apple TV+ next month.
