Lily James Has Changed Her Life Thanks to Starring With Pierce Brosnan in Sequel to 90s Action Classic

Following roles that included battling zombies, performing ABBA songs, and portraying Pamela Anderson, the actress is now tackling a new challenge as the lead in the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s action thriller. In an interview with MovieWeb’s George Edelman about her film, Relay, she shared how committed she is to ensuring the movie feels genuine and realistic.

I’m really excited about the *Cliffhanger* sequel, even though it’s had a bit of a bumpy road getting here! Originally, Sylvester Stallone was going to reprise his role as Gabe Walker, and the story was going to center around him getting kidnapped and his daughter having to save him. But things changed, and now Pierce Brosnan is taking on the role of Ray Cooper instead, with James playing his daughter, Sydney. I think it’s still going to be a great movie!

To prepare for the part, James took up rock climbing and became so immersed in the role that she’s now completely hooked on the activity. She shared:

Climbing was an incredibly rewarding experience for me. I really developed my skills, spending months on the mountain, practicing for hours each day. I’m completely hooked now – it feels like a perfect connection between my mind, body, and spirit. It’s both meditative and physically demanding, and it’s something I plan to continue with for the rest of my life. I also enjoyed getting stronger through it. I’m currently producing a show about climbing, and while we want to keep the things people love about similar shows, we’re approaching it in a new way. I’m really proud of it and excited to share it with everyone.

Most sequels include a character or element from the first film to maintain a connection. This is often what defines a sequel. However, *Cliffhanger 2* appears to be relying solely on the original title, raising questions about why it’s still using the *Cliffhanger* name.

While the new film with Brosnan could be just as popular as the original, many fans of the first movie might be disappointed that Stallone isn’t returning for the sequel, especially since it’s been 30 years in the making.

Honestly, action films are doing really well in theaters lately, and getting someone like a former James Bond involved is a huge boost. I’m especially excited about *Cliffhanger 2*. After a big creative shake-up at the end of 2024, it’s looking like we’ll finally see it climb the box office charts around 2026, and I can’t wait!
