Harrison Ford has confirmed that Shrinking season 4 is getting rewarded with its episode count.
Apple TV has renewed the comedy-drama Shrinking for a fourth season, even before season 3 began airing in early January. Production on the new season is starting shortly, and Jason Segel (who plays Dr. Paul Rhoades) will be back. While we don’t know exactly when season 4 will premiere, more details are coming soon.
Jason Segel told Variety that filming for the fourth season of Shrinking starts next week. They’re making 12 episodes, which is the same amount as season 2 and one more than season 3. The first season of Shrinking had 10 episodes.
As fans await season 4 of Shrinking, it’s clear the show will be taking a different direction than the first three seasons. Co-creator Bill Lawrence has announced a “completely new story” for the next season, calling it “scary, risky, and fun.” He explained that while the story will be fresh, it will still feature the same beloved cast, rather than introducing a whole new set of main characters.
Jason Segel recently shared that the fourth season of Shrinking will jump forward in time. While the show will still be set in the Pasadena and Altadena areas, following characters like Jimmy Laird and Gaby Evans, Harrison Ford’s character, Paul, will now be living on the East Coast.
In the final episode of Shrinking season 3, Paul relocated to Connecticut with his wife, Dr. Julie Baram (played by Wendy Malick), to be near his daughter, Meg. Before fully moving, he quickly returned to Los Angeles to help Jimmy make amends with Sofi (played by Cobie Smulders).
It’s currently unknown if Paul will come back to Los Angeles for the fourth season of Shrinking, or if he’ll stay in Connecticut throughout the new season. He isn’t the only character there, though – Jimmy’s daughter, Alice, who is played by Lukita Maxwell, is also living in Connecticut while attending college.
Harrison Ford created the show Shrinking alongside Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein. Goldstein also appears in seasons 2 and 3 as Louis Winston, the driver who caused the accident that resulted in the death of Jimmy’s wife, Tia, and Alice’s mother. The main cast also includes Luke Tennie as Sean Mitchell, Michael Urie as Brian Lorenzo, Christa Miller as Liz Bishop, and Ted McGinley as Derek Bishop.
I’ve been a big fan of Shrinking, and it’s no surprise season 3 was also a hit with critics – it has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! The show has gotten so much recognition with nine Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nods. I was especially thrilled when John Urie won the Critics’ Choice Television Award in 2025 for his amazing performance as Brian – he totally deserved it!
Bill Lawrence has three TV shows currently on Apple TV+: Shrinking, the returning hit Ted Lasso (season 4 arrives in August), and Bad Monkey, which hasn’t been renewed for a second season yet. He’s also an executive producer on the Scrubs revival for ABC and created the HBO Max series Rooster.
