Netflix’s 6-Part Thriller Based on a Book Is Officially the No. 1 Most-Watched Show of 2026

By May 2026, Netflix is leading the streaming world, thanks to one of its original series being the year’s most popular show so far. This success was announced roughly five months after the show premiered on Netflix in January.

According to Nielsen’s latest data, Netflix’s His & Hers was the most-watched series of 2026. Over 35 days, it averaged 25.6 million viewers across both traditional TV and streaming platforms—all of which came from Netflix. Coming in second was the CBS series Marshals (a Yellowstone spinoff) with 25.24 million viewers. The rest of the top shows included Landman on Paramount+, Bridgerton on Netflix, Tracker on CBS, and High Potential on ABC.

His & Hers Was Adapted From the 2020 Novel

Alice Feeney wrote the novel His & Hers. Netflix adapted it into a six-episode TV series developed by William Oldroyd, with Dee Johnson as showrunner. The series stars Tessa Thompson (known from Westworld), Jon Bernthal (The Punisher: One Last Kill), Pablo Schreiber (Halo), Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), Sunita Mani (GLOW), Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Mindy Project), Crystal Fox (In the Heat of the Night), Chris Bauer (The Wire), and Poppy Liu (Hacks).

Author Caroline Feeney recently shared with Netflix’s Tudum that it’s been seven years since she first wrote His & Hers in her garden shed. She described the journey to seeing her book adapted for television as incredible, expressing her deep affection for both the story and the new series, and gratitude to everyone involved in making it a reality.

Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal Lead the Cast of His & Hers

The new series centers on Anna and Jack, a divorced couple who unexpectedly become involved in the same murder case, but on opposing sides. Anna, a former journalist, starts investigating when a woman is killed in her quiet Georgia town. Jack is the lead detective assigned to the case, and as they both dig deeper, they begin to suspect each other of concealing crucial information. However, as the series unfolds, it becomes clear that they aren’t the only ones with secrets.

I’ve been totally hooked on His & Hers, and it’s amazing how popular it’s become! It’s getting a lot of buzz, though opinions are a bit all over the place. It’s sitting at 70% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and audiences give it a 62%, which isn’t bad at all. People seem to have different thoughts on the plot itself, and how everything wraps up, but everyone agrees that Michael Shannon and Toni Collette are incredible – seriously, they carry the show! And even if the journey to the end wasn’t perfect for some, that final episode? Wow. It really stuck with me.
