Aerion Targaryen’s A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Return Potential Addressed By Finn Bennett

Brightflame could make a fiery return in Game of Thrones‘ hit new series.

Following a highly successful first season on HBO this past winter, a second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is confirmed. The new season will continue the story of Dunk and Egg, with Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell reprising their roles as Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon “Egg” Targaryen. It’s currently unknown which other characters from season one will return.

At the premiere of the new horror film Backrooms, Finn Bennett spoke with ScreenRant and said he’d love to reprise his role as Prince Aerion Targaryen in future seasons of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, he acknowledged that it’s uncertain if he’ll be back, as his character doesn’t appear in the source material – George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novella that the first season is based on.

You were fantastic as Aerion Brightflame, even in those intense scenes! While you weren’t in the other novellas, do you think the writers, Ira Parker and George R.R. Martin, might find a way to bring your character back? And would you be interested in returning?

Finn Bennett expressed his excitement and pride regarding a recent series he was involved in. He’s happy with how it turned out and feels grateful to have worked with Peter and Dexter, and the entire team. He’d prefer to wait and see what happens next, but is currently very pleased with the experience.

Aerion, who was the main antagonist in season 1, doesn’t appear in the source material for seasons 2 and 3 – The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight, respectively. However, the show has already deviated from the books in season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, so there’s still a chance Aerion could make a brief appearance in a future season.

Parker has proposed a plan to HBO for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms that could span 12 to 15 seasons, covering the entire lives of the characters Dunk and Egg. If approved, this longer series would allow the show to revisit Aerion’s story and explore the future developments of his character as a Targaryen prince.

It’s currently unknown if Aerion will appear in the upcoming season, but another important Targaryen character won’t be returning. Sam Spruell, who played Aerion and Egg’s father, Maekar Targaryen, has confirmed he won’t be in season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, he hinted that there’s a possibility his character could reappear in future seasons, similar to what another actor suggested.

It’s currently unknown if Daeron Targaryen, the oldest of Aerion and Egg’s brothers (played by Henry Ashton), will return for season 2. While his story continues beyond the events of the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in the original book series, he hasn’t appeared in any of George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas since then.

Fans are eagerly wondering if Aemon Targaryen, the popular maester from Game of Thrones, will show up in season 2, alongside his brothers Egg, Aerion, and Daeron. While Parker hasn’t directly confirmed Aemon’s appearance, he has hinted that characters who were still alive during the original Game of Thrones timeline might make an appearance.

With the upcoming premiere of House of the Dragon season 3 on June 21st, another Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is also being filmed. HBO hasn’t announced a specific date yet, but season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is scheduled to debut in 2027.
