This week on Prime Video (May 4–8, 2026), don’t miss five standout shows! The lineup includes a hugely popular new true crime series, a fresh take on a beloved classic book, and the exciting return of a popular action franchise. Along with already trending hits like Scarpetta and Young Sherlock, these original Prime Video series offer something new, interesting, and well-made for all subscribers.
Prime Video offers something for everyone, from quick, captivating thrillers to long-running, popular series. Shows like the animated series Kevin and the competition show American Gladiators, which we recommended last week, are still excellent choices. However, if you want to see the very best Prime Video has to offer right now, here are our top five picks.
Killing Grounds: The Gilgo Beach Murders
If you’re into true crime, you’ll want to check out Killing Grounds: The Gilgo Beach Murders, a new and highly popular series on Prime Video. Currently ranked #2 in documentary TV shows on the platform, this 4-part series dives into the Long Island murders that occurred between 1996 and 2011, and the extensive investigation that ultimately uncovered a killer who had been hiding in plain sight.
Earnhardt
Even if you don’t normally follow racing, the docuseries Earnhardt is worth watching. It tells the incredible true story of NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt and his son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and how a sudden tragedy impacted their lives. This captivating four-part series has been nominated for a 2026 Sports Emmy and offers a moving look at the Earnhardt family – one of the most famous in sports history.
The House Of The Spirits
Currently, The House of the Spirits is a popular new series on Prime Video, landing at number 5 on its global charts. The show is based on Isabel Allende’s well-known 1982 novel of the same name and follows the lives of three generations of women over a century in a beautiful but troubled South American nation. While a film adaptation starring Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, and Jeremy Irons was released in 1993, the new Prime Video series has been better received by critics, earning an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Boys
With the final season of Prime Video’s hit show The Boys just weeks away, now is the perfect time to start watching if you haven’t already. The series is famous for its dark humor, over-the-top action inspired by comic books, and intense fight scenes. The Boys has become a standout streaming series of the 21st century, and fans are eager to see how it concludes when the final episodes become available on Prime Video on Wednesday, May 20.
Citadel
When it first launched in 2023, Citadel was expected to be a major spy-action series for Prime Video. However, it received mostly negative reviews, earning a 51% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2, debuting this Wednesday, May 6th, aims to improve on the first season’s mixed reception. This season will consist of seven new episodes, with four directed by Joe Russo, known for his work on the Avengers films. Starring Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Stanley Tucci, Citadel season 2 has the potential to become a surprising hit on Prime Video if it can address the issues from its initial debut.
