Netflix’s Ransom Canyon Season 2 Release Date & First-Look Images Revealed After Major Cast Shakeup

After a major cast shakeup, Ransom Canyon season 2’s release date and new images have been revealed.

The first season of the Netflix western Ransom Canyon centers on three families – the Kirklands, Collinses, and Fullers – as they compete for land ownership in the Texas Hill Country. While Eion Macken and Andrew Liner played key roles as Davis and Reid Collins in season one, news emerged in September that they won’t be part of the show’s cast for season two.

Netflix has revealed that season 2 of Ransom Canyon will premiere on July 23rd. This season will have eight episodes, which is shorter than the ten episodes in season 1. New photos have been released, giving us a glimpse of characters like Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel), Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), Lauren Brigman (Lizzy Greene), and Lucas Russell (Garrett Wareing). You can see the photos below.

Season 2 picks up six months after the events of Season 1. Staten is determined to rebuild his reputation after losing control of the Double K Ranch, while Quinn is deciding whether to stay in New York City or return to her hometown. Their relationship will face challenges as they try to make things work, and their love story will continue to get more complicated.

This series is inspired by Jodi Thomas’ Ransom Canyon novels. April Blair developed the show and oversees it as showrunner and executive producer. Josh Duhamel and Kelly Ripa also serve as executive producers. Season two stars Jack Schumacher, Marianly Tejada, Casey W. Johnson, Patricia Clarkson, Ben Robson, Heidi Engerman, Tatanka Means, Justin Johnson Cortez, Philip Winchester, Jennifer Ens, Brett Cullen, and Niko Guardado, alongside Greene and Wareing.

The series did well on Netflix, but received mixed reactions, with a 45% score from critics and a 73% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, a review from ScreenRant’s Ransom Canyon was more positive. Greg MacArthur gave the first season an 8 out of 10, praising its ability to deliver on a straightforward idea and create a cast of charming, likable characters.

With its focus on families battling for control of land, Ransom Canyon is often compared to the popular Yellowstone series, which brought westerns back into the spotlight. However, in his review, MacArthur points out that the Netflix show is more than just a copy of Yellowstone. The elements of romance, a murder mystery, and complex family dynamics all contribute to Ransom Canyon establishing its own distinct and compelling identity.

As a huge fan, I’m really excited that the show has so much material to work with! With eight books in the Ransom Canyon series, they’re definitely set for a potential season three, especially if ratings stay strong. I’m also hoping season two will get a better reception from critics. Now that people know what the show is about, it hopefully won’t be unfairly compared to Yellowstone all the time, and they’ll give it a fair look.

Ransom Canyon season 2 comes to Netflix on July 23.
