I’ve been keeping a close eye on Curry Barker – he’s a rising horror director who’s already made a name for himself. And now, he’s tackling a huge project! He’s officially been chosen to give a fresh take on .
Okay, so I just heard some amazing news! Apparently, David Barker is going to be directing a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie for A24! It’s totally separate from the other Texas Chainsaw Massacre project JT Mollner is working on over there. We don’t know much about Barker’s version yet, but everyone’s calling it a ‘reimagining,’ which sounds like they’re going to tell a fresh story inspired by the original 1974 film. I’m so excited to see what he does with it!
Curry Barker Is Reimagining The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I’m so excited for Barker’s new film, Obsession! It’s coming out on May 15, 2026, through Focus Features. I heard it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and everyone’s been raving about it. Seriously, it has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is incredible – it’s already being called one of the best horror movies of the year! The story is about a guy who uses a strange toy to try and make his childhood friend fall in love with him, but things go horribly wrong. I can’t wait to see it!
I remember being totally blown away by this director, Barker, and his first movie, Milk & Serial. Seriously, he made a found footage film for just $800! It’s about these two guys who make prank videos for YouTube, and things quickly go from silly to seriously scary as they try to one-up each other. It was a real struggle getting it seen, so he ended up putting it on YouTube for free in 2024. But it really connected with people – critics called it one of the most disturbing movies of the year (iHorror said that!), and even Variety called it an unlikely hit. It’s a crazy story, and a really effective film.
Stephen Curry, known for his work in horror, has a new film coming soon for fans of the genre. Recently finished, Anything but Ghosts stars Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad. The movie centers around a team of fake ghost hunters who encounter real, angry spirits as their deceptive practices catch up to them. While a release date isn’t confirmed yet, the film is also being produced by Blumhouse Productions.
Will Curry Barker Recapture the Magic of Part One?
Directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written with Kim Henkel, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre launched one of horror’s most iconic franchises. The original film follows a group of friends who encounter a terrifying family of cannibals during a road trip through rural Texas. Known for its realistic and disturbing tone, and strong performances, it’s often called the scariest movie ever made. Though many sequels, prequels, and remakes have been released, none have matched the original’s intense fear factor.
A24 has not yet set a premiere date for Curry Barker’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
