Dexter: Resurrection Season 2’s Returning Character Can Finally Confirm A 16-Year-Old Theory

Season two of Dexter: Resurrection is bringing back a character who will finally prove a fan theory that’s been around for sixteen years, stemming from the original Dexter series. Currently in production, the new season follows Dexter and his son Harrison as they navigate life in New York City. Dexter continues his vigilantism, while Harrison struggles with his inner demons, and both face fresh obstacles.

Season two of Dexter: Resurrection will feature two new main serial killers. Don Framt, played by Brian Cox, is known as the New York Ripper and continues to haunt the families of his past victims even after retirement. Owen Stark (Dan Stevens), also known as the Five Borough Killer, will also be a key antagonist, brutally killing innocent people and mocking the police.

This season, a familiar face is joining the cast: Joey Quinn, played by Desmond Harrington. Viewers may remember him from season 3, and he also made a guest appearance in season 1. Now, he’ll be a regular main character on the show.

Quinn and Dexter have always had a difficult relationship, especially after Quinn started dating Dexter’s sister, Deb. The show hinted at a significant secret: Quinn may already suspect Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher. If he is right, this knowledge will be crucial to the plot of Dexter: Resurrection.

Why Quinn May Already Know Dexter Is The Bay Harbor Butcher

Man, after Rita got killed by the Trinity Killer at the end of season four, things got really interesting. Quinn started to get this feeling that Dexter might somehow be involved with Trinity, which, looking back, is pretty wild to think about. So, in season five, he teamed up with this shady cop, Stan Liddy, to really dig into Dexter’s past. But Quinn eventually decided to back off the investigation because he was trying to make things work with Deb. Unfortunately for him, Liddy wasn’t willing to just let it go – he kept pursuing it even after Quinn wanted to stop.

Things really escalate when Liddy actually kidnaps Dexter, then gets in touch with Quinn to brag about taking someone – implying it’s the protagonist. Eventually, Dexter has to kill Liddy, but Quinn stumbles upon one of the officer’s vans and, sadly, they find his body inside. It all unfolds in a way that makes you think Quinn might be putting the pieces together and starting to suspect Dexter is actually the Bay Harbor Butcher, especially considering his past work on the case. As a viewer, it’s incredibly tense!

Despite Dexter’s actions, Quinn never explicitly confronted him about killing Liddy. The show hinted at an understanding, suggesting Quinn believed Dexter acted in self-defense. However, because Quinn also suspected Dexter was the man from the Trinity Killer’s sketches – potentially linking him to the Bay Harbor Butcher murders – he might have known more than he let on.

The final episode of Dexter season 8 supports this idea: Dexter kills Oliver Saxon, who was already in custody, and Quinn defends his actions, claiming self-defense. Considering Saxon was responsible for Deb’s death, Quinn even says he would have done the same thing. If Quinn knows Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher, he sees no reason to report him.

Quinn Knowing Dexter’s Secret Would Make Resurrection Season 2 Way More Interesting

At the end of Dexter: Resurrection season one, only Harrison and Charley are aware that Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher. However, the arrival of Quinn could change things. If Quinn discovers Dexter’s secret, it might be simpler for Dexter to avoid trouble with the law, particularly if Quinn is willing to support him.

As a viewer, I can already feel the pressure building. Dexter’s sudden appearance in New York throws a wrench into everything, and I’m guessing Quinn won’t take long to connect the dots. He’s clearly suspicious of Dexter already, and now things are about to explode. We’re not just talking about Batista’s disappearance anymore; I have a feeling LaGuerta and Deb are going to get pulled into this confrontation too, and it’s going to be intense.

The new season of Dexter: Resurrection could team Dexter and Quinn up as partners, investigating serial killers. This would be a unique twist, as Quinn would be aware of Dexter’s dark secret. This dynamic could make Quinn a valuable ally – or a dangerous enemy – for years to come.
