A recently released behind-the-scenes image may offer a first glimpse at Link’s appearance in the upcoming live-action film, The Legend of Zelda. The movie, directed by Wes Ball (known for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), finished filming in April 2026 just before CinemaCon. Despite the film’s completion, Sony Pictures hasn’t yet shared any footage or revealed how Link will look in this adaptation of the popular video game.
Cinematographer Gyula Pados, who is working on The Legend of Zelda movie, shared a photo on Instagram marking the end of main filming. The picture shows what the main character, Link (played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth), will be wearing. While it looks like early concept art and not a final shot from the movie, it gives a good idea of what Link will look like. You can see the image below.
The picture shows Link wearing his iconic green hat, with a costume that blends elements from both the Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess games. Initial photos of actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth didn’t include the hat; instead, he wore Link’s familiar green tunic, but in a shade different from the light blue seen in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The film’s costume might change as the story progresses, potentially taking inspiration from various games to create a look that’s special for the movie.
Details about the story for the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie are being kept secret. It’s unknown if the film will be based on one particular game, take place within the existing game timelines, or combine elements from multiple games to create something new. So far, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth has been cast as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, but no other actors have been announced since those castings were revealed on July 16, 2025.
Following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo is bringing another beloved franchise to the big screen with The Legend of Zelda. This will be the first live-action Nintendo movie since Pokémon: Detective Pikachu in 2019. Interestingly, the film will be distributed by Sony Pictures, a company whose parent corporation, Sony Group, also makes the PlayStation – a major competitor to Nintendo’s gaming consoles. The Legend of Zelda movie is scheduled to release on May 7, 2027, and will launch the summer movie season.
