After years of speculation, a Moon Knight movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe might actually happen soon.
Oscar Isaac recently discussed the future of his Marvel character, Moon Knight, during an appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast. While a second season of the Disney+ show hasn’t been confirmed, they also talked about a potential project involving the Midnight Sons – a team of supernatural Marvel heroes from the comics that Moon Knight is a part of. Isaac explained that discussions about the Midnight Sons were interesting because the story deals with serious themes, specifically Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). He emphasized the importance of handling these sensitive topics with respect and authenticity, even within the context of a fantastical comic book world, believing the project could successfully balance both entertainment and meaningful representation.
I’m still waiting for any news on Midnight Son, but Isaac definitely reacted to all the fan talk about Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider! Apparently, a lot of people want to see the Barbie star take on the Spirit of Vengeance, and Isaac just tweeted, “Make it happen, fellas!” It’s funny, because Gosling’s already hinted that figuring out the schedule has been “complicated,” but he’s clearly eager to play Ghost Rider for Marvel. I’m hoping they can make it work – it would be amazing!
Although a second season of Moon Knight hasn’t been officially announced, the show was developed before Marvel reorganized its television division. Now, Marvel is prioritizing series with the potential to run for several seasons, similar to traditional TV shows. Another reason for the delay in updates is that Marvel Studios is currently focused on completing its Phase 6 projects and finishing its overarching Multiverse Saga.
Several Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes would be a great fit for the Midnight Sons team, and including Moon Knight could give his character a bigger story arc beyond his solo series. This supernatural team-up could also help resolve the ongoing issues with the Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, which has faced significant development delays.
After Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, introducing the Midnight Sons would likely be a good fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly after the timeline has been reset. In a recent interview, Kevin Feige also expressed his appreciation for the Moon Knight series, praising director Mohamed Diab and his previous film, Cairo 6,7,8. Feige was impressed with Diab’s unique perspective and saw potential in the Moon Knight concept, admitting he wasn’t familiar with the character beforehand.
Moon Knight season 1 is available for streaming on Disney+, as well as on Blu-ray/DVD.
