Avengers: Doomsday’s New Trailer Reveals The Doctor Doom Fight That Could Kill A Major MCU Hero

Fans are getting increasingly hyped for the next Marvel movie, Avengers: Doomsday, after the release of a new trailer packed with incredible action. The trailer also suggests a significant character might not survive. It seems like no one is safe when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters, considering every previous Avengers film has featured a major character’s death.

The recent Avengers: Endgame (2019) featured the deaths of three major characters: Iron Man, Black Widow, and Gamora. Now, with the directors, the Russo Brothers, hinting that Robert Downey Jr. might play Doctor Doom – and that he could be an even bigger threat than Thanos – we can expect more characters to die in future Marvel movies.

When you look at the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, several heroes seem like potential candidates to die. Characters like Bucky Barnes and Loki, who have been around in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while, could meet their end. Now that the X-Men from Fox are joining the MCU, many of those established heroes – or even all of them – could perish by the film’s conclusion. But one character, in particular, seems most at risk.

Most fans believe Thor, as played by Chris Hemsworth, is the Avenger most likely to die in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. Even before any trailers were released, there was speculation that Thor might sacrifice himself to save Loki if Doctor Doom threatened the multiverse. The teaser trailer showed Thor desperately praying to Odin, clearly fearing Doom, and the full trailer now strongly suggests that Thor will, in fact, die.

The New Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Boosts An MCU Death Theory

During CinemaCon, where ScreenRant was present, Marvel Studios showed the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday to those in attendance. While the trailer featured many thrilling scenes and fights, the battle between Thor and Doctor Doom stood out. In one particularly striking moment, Thor charges at Doom with his weapon, Stormbreaker, but Doom effortlessly stops the attack by catching the weapon with just one hand.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m a little worried about Thor going up against Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Even though Thor’s incredibly powerful, Doom just feels like a really tough opponent for him. The trailer shows Thor right in the thick of things – he’s even hanging out with two different Avengers teams and the Fantastic Four in Avengers Tower! It makes me think his battles with Doom might not go well for him. And honestly, that creepy voiceover they released? It’s adding to my anxiety about what’s coming. You really should check it out – it’s unsettling!

I’ve battled countless warriors, some far more powerful than all of us combined. They fell in combat against foes that didn’t frighten me nearly as much as this current threat does. Their sacrifices will be meaningless if we can’t put aside our disagreements and unite. Forget everything else; focus only on this. If you come back, come back as allies, as family. Believe me, we’re going to need a stroke of luck to get through this.

Why Thor Dying In Avengers: Doomsday Would Not Have To Be The End Of His Story

Even if Thor dies in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, Chris Hemsworth doesn’t necessarily have to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is expected to culminate with Doctor Doom establishing Battleworld, similar to the Secret Wars storyline in the comics, and becoming its ruler. Interestingly, multiple versions of Thor – the Thor Corps – were important characters in that comic book event.

Thor might return if Doctor Doom builds a new ideal world, potentially bringing him back to life. If not, the Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes could resurrect him when the franchise restarts after Avengers: Secret Wars, which is rumored to happen. Either way, Thor will be a key character to follow in Avengers: Secret Wars.
