Even after 23 years, people are still discussing the video game The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Though it was released a while ago, it wonderfully captured the feel of Springfield and was a strong competitor to games like Grand Theft Auto 3.
The Simpsons: Hit and Run is a really fun game where you drive around Springfield and complete silly missions for its characters. Like the popular Grand Theft Auto series, it also lets you go on the run from the police after causing some trouble!
SSX 3 Shows How Good Sports Games Can Be
The PS2 snowboarding game, SSX, was so popular it drew in even people who weren’t usually interested in the sport, and SSX 3 was the best game in the series. While SSX Tricky had a fantastic soundtrack, SSX 3 felt better to play thanks to its improved controls and more versatile gameplay.
Adding to its appeal, SSX 3 boasts a fantastic soundtrack and tons of unlockable content. It’s widely considered the greatest snowboarding game of all time, demonstrating that a truly exceptional sports game can attract a broad audience.
Shadow Hearts: Covenant Brought Horror to RPGs
While many fantasy role-playing games exist, Shadow Hearts: Covenant uniquely demonstrated how well RPG gameplay could work with horror. The game, set in a dark alternate version of World War I, combined traditional turn-based combat with the chilling atmosphere of Lovecraftian horror. The use of real historical details actually made the game’s horror elements even more impactful.

Devil May Cry started as an idea inspired by other games, but it quickly became something unique. The game, known for its fast-paced and stylish action following the demon hunter Dante, went on to create a new type of action game focused on impressive and visually exciting combat.
The first Devil May Cry game was known for being very challenging, but players loved it because of its compelling characters, especially Dante. The series remains incredibly popular today, as evidenced by the millions of people watching the Devil May Cry animated series on Netflix.
Final Fantasy XII Is an Underrated Entry in the Iconic Franchise
Okay, so everyone talks about Final Fantasy X being the first Final Fantasy on the PS2, and it’s great, but I honestly think Final Fantasy XII gets a bit overlooked. It’s such a shame because the battle system is seriously addictive – you can basically program your characters to fight how you want! Plus, the job system, especially in the International Zodiac Job System version, lets you really customize each character and make them your own. It’s a really deep and rewarding system, and I wish more people would give XII a chance.
Final Fantasy XII is known for its richly developed world and memorable characters, including fan favorites like Fran and Balthier, who are considered some of the best in the entire Final Fantasy series. With Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age now available on Steam and other platforms, it’s a perfect time to revisit this often-overlooked gem.
God of War’s PS2 Era Is Still Incredible
While the 2018 God of War was a fantastic reinvention, the original games on PlayStation 2 remain timeless classics. Kratos truly belongs in the world of Greek mythology, and the combat is incredibly exciting and visually impressive.
No matter what fantastical creatures players face – from harpies to cyclops – God of War consistently delivers a grand and immersive experience. The original God of War games on PlayStation 2 tell a sweeping story, and even though they differ from the newer games, they remain incredibly fun to play.
Shadow of the Colossus Is a Truly Heartbreaking Game
Even years after it first came out in 2005, Shadow of the Colossus remains unique. Though the story is intentionally ambiguous, leaving much to the player’s imagination, it’s a deeply emotional game that constantly challenges your choices and makes you think about what you’re doing.
The game centers on epic battles against massive creatures called colossi, and each one feels incredibly realistic. While the fights are thrilling, players often experience mixed emotions when they finally defeat a colossus, feeling a sense of sadness alongside their victory.
Silent Hill 2 Is the Best Psychological Horror Game of All Time
The Silent Hill series has seen many excellent games, but Silent Hill 2 remains the best. Its story, following James Sunderland as he journeys to Silent Hill after his wife’s death, is a landmark achievement in psychological horror and continues to influence the series today.
Honestly, if it wasn’t for Silent Hill 2, the whole series might be totally different. We probably wouldn’t have even heard of Pyramid Head, and it could’ve just become a bunch of games about creepy cults. But Silent Hill 2 really showed everyone that these games were about something way deeper – really personal stories. That’s what made the series so special, and it’s why it’s become a classic for me.
