If you’re looking for something to watch on Disney+ this weekend, you’ve come to the right place! We’re highlighting three movies spanning different genres. This is the first in a new series of movie recommendations from us, following our popular picks for Netflix and Prime Video. Disney+ has a great selection of films, and we think you’ll find something you enjoy.
I began by exploring a variety of genres to make sure there’s something for everyone. For fans of action and suspense, we have a thriller starring an Academy Award-winning actor. We’ve also included a beloved classic comedy-drama that’s gaining popularity again, and finally, a recent science fiction film that was a hit in theaters.
Disney+ is best known as the place to go for popular franchises. If you’re a fan of huge series like Star Wars or Marvel, Disney+ is the obvious choice. So, it makes sense to include one of these major franchises in our recommendations.
Don’t worry, this isn’t a comprehensive list of Marvel movies. We’re highlighting just one superhero film that offers a really unique take on the genre. With Marvel releasing major blockbusters like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday this year, everyone is talking about them. Here are some recommendations available on Disney+:
3. The Amateur (2025)
Let’s start with The Amateur, an action thriller that didn’t make a big splash in theaters. Although it earned $96 million with a $60 million production budget, it ultimately lost money after factoring in marketing and other costs. Despite this, the movie is a thrilling experience, and it boasts a strong 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
I just finished watching The Amateur, and it’s a really gripping thriller. It centers around Rami Malek, who plays a brilliant CIA codebreaker named Charlie Heller. After a devastating terrorist attack takes his wife, he goes off the books to find those responsible, taking him all over the world. What I really liked was how the movie combined intense action with some clever twists and turns, and it all stemmed from a genuinely emotional core. Plus, the cast is fantastic – you’ve got Jon Bernthal, Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan, and a lot of other great actors involved.
2. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
Next up is The Devil Wears Prada. While many Disney+ subscribers have likely already seen this 2006 classic, it’s a perfect time for a re-watch—or to watch it for the first time! With The Devil Wears Prada 2 coming to theaters on May 1, now is the time to revisit the original.
The Devil Wears Prada is a funny and dramatic movie that shows what it’s like to work in the fast-paced world of high fashion. Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway give fantastic performances, supported by a strong cast including Emily Blunt, Simon Baker, Stanley Tucci, and Adrian Grenier. Many people can relate to the challenges Andy, played by Hathaway, faces.
1. The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)
Rounding out the list is Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It’s a great watch, especially with the current excitement around space exploration sparked by the popular movie Project Hail Mary and NASA’s Artemis II mission. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a visually stunning sci-fi film.
This movie, set on an alternate Earth within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has a unique, retro-futuristic style that sets it apart. It’s a hopeful and optimistic story with a strong message about the importance of family. Fans will love seeing fresh takes on the Fantastic Four’s abilities and iconic villains like Galactus. It’s a fantastic, epic film to cap off your weekend on Disney+.
