Marvel Studios Unveils Fiery New Punisher Logo

Disney+ has revealed a new logo for its upcoming special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, following the release of the trailer. Jon Bernthal returns as Frank Castle, the Punisher, after reprising the role in last year’s Daredevil: Born Again. This appearance sets the stage for his anticipated debut on the big screen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The official trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill revealed the first look at Jon Bernthal’s Disney+ special and ended with a brand new logo. The updated logo’s design reflects the text seen throughout the trailer, and specifically references the dramatic scene where Frank Castle is covered in fuel and ignited.

The trailer for the Special Presentation features a logo that’s quite different from the one used in all previous marketing for One Last Kill, including the posters. However, the original logo for The Punisher: One Last Kill will likely continue to be the main image for most promotional materials, and the new, fiery logo is probably just for this specific trailer.

The original logo for One Last Kill looked similar to the one for Netflix’s The Punisher, but had a more obvious comic book style. Following his popular appearance in Daredevil Season 2, Bernthal first played Frank Castle in his own two-season Netflix series, which is now being reimagined as a Disney+ special, similar to the Born Again project.

Before Jon Bernthal took on the role of the Punisher in 2016, Dolph Lundgren, famous for playing Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, actually played Frank Castle in a movie back in 1989. This film featured Castle battling both the Mafia and the Yakuza. While it was released on video and DVD in the U.S., it had a small release in theaters in other countries.

The character of The Punisher was revived in the 2004 film of the same name, with Thomas Jane taking on the role. There was speculation that Jane might reprise his part as Frank Castle in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, but he has stated in an interview with TopMob that he was never contacted about returning.

Lionsgate, the studio behind The Punisher, initially planned a sequel, but it eventually became Punisher: War Zone. This new film featured Ray Stevenson taking over the role of the Punisher from Thomas Jane. The movie followed the anti-hero as he fought against crime and corruption, facing off against a grotesque mob boss and Jigsaw, a notorious enemy of the Punisher.

After seven years, Jon Bernthal is returning as Frank Castle in The Punisher: One Last Kill, a standalone special coming to Disney+ on May 12th. This one-hour event will also feature the return of two other characters from the original Netflix series as Castle confronts mob boss Ma Gnucci.

Here’s What to Expect From The Punisher: One Last Kill Special

The trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill shows a fast-paced, hour-long episode where Frank Castle hunts down Ma Gnucci. However, it appears this time, the Punisher will be hesitant to take on the hunt, as the story suggests he’s looking for something more than just revenge.

The upcoming special episode appears to explore Frank Castle’s time in the military and the lasting effects of PTSD, showing him experiencing hallucinations of people he’s lost. One of these visions featured Curtis Hoyle, played by Jason R. Moore, a former Navy colleague and friend of Castle’s, leading fans to wonder if Hoyle had died sometime before this episode without it being shown.

With a difficult past haunting him and a new enemy emerging, the events of One Last Kill could set the stage for Frank Castle’s future in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. As the Punisher transitions to a more family-friendly rating, this story might help audiences accept a less violent version of the character in his upcoming movie appearance.
