William Stanford Davis, who plays Mr. Johnson on the show Abbott Elementary, suggests fans will soon learn his character’s first name.
Davis plays the school custodian, Mr. Johnson, a beloved character known for his dedication to his job and his surprisingly eccentric beliefs. Throughout the show’s five seasons, we’ve learned a lot about his unusual life, but his first name is still a secret.
I was reading an interview with Chris Davis, who plays Mr. Johnson on Abbott Elementary, and ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender asked him about Mr. Johnson’s first name. Apparently, even he doesn’t know what it is! He thinks they’re saving it for the very last episode, and honestly, I kind of agree. It’s a fun little mystery, and the show can definitely keep us guessing for a while longer, which I’m totally okay with. Here’s what he had to say:
I’m not sure what it is, but I have a feeling we’ll find out in the very last episode of the series. I’ve even offered some ideas about what it could be!
We’ll probably find out eventually, but I’m enjoying the mystery for now. Let’s see how much longer we can keep things going like this.
Though Abbott Elementary will be back for a sixth season, the show’s creators haven’t said how long they plan to continue the series. This means we don’t know when the show will end, or if we’ll finally learn Mr. Johnson’s first name – but season six is the soonest either of those things could happen.
With strong ratings on both ABC and Hulu, four Emmy Awards, and a total of 30 nominations, Abbott Elementary has become a huge hit. Critics and audiences alike overwhelmingly love the show, as reflected by its 99% and 90% scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Now renewed for a sixth season, the show’s success doesn’t seem to be fading. Because the series focuses more on its characters than a complex storyline, there are still many opportunities to see Mr. Johnson and the rest of the Abbott Elementary cast navigate the world of education and help their students succeed.
While most of Abbott Elementary takes place at the school, some episodes show what happens in the characters’ personal lives. We’ve seen the teachers at a karaoke bar, a Phillies game, and even Mr. Johnson getting his REAL ID at the DMV. If the show ever reveals Mr. Johnson’s first name, it will likely happen either during one of these outings or while he’s at work.
Besides Mr. Johnson, the show’s main cast includes Quinta Brunson as Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard. Abbott Elementary also features guest appearances by Ayo Edebiri (as Janine’s sister Ayesha), Taraji P. Henson (as Janine’s mother Vanetta), and celebrities like Bradley Cooper and Kevin Hart playing themselves. Quinta Brunson created the series and also serves as a co-showrunner and executive producer with Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker.
Abbott Elementary releases new episodes Wednesdays on ABC and the next day on Hulu.
