The story follows Lyra, a really brave young orphan played by Dafne Keen, who goes on this amazing, multi-world adventure to find her best friend who’s gone missing. But things quickly get complicated! There are kids disappearing, a powerful and controlling religious authority called the Magisterium breathing down everyone’s neck, and this mysterious thing called Dust that seems super important but no one really understands.

HBO’s His Dark Materials is a wonderful series that lived up to the high expectations of fans and newcomers alike. The show brilliantly captures the spirit of the original books, thanks to a talented cast who brought complex characters to life. It explores big ideas – like dealing with death and the tension between faith and reason – in a way that’s both thought-provoking and enjoyable for everyone.

A Magical Organization Aims To Fulfill An Ancient Prophecy

Even though it was unfortunately canceled after three seasons, The Wheel of Time remains Prime Video’s strongest fantasy series, and it’s hard to imagine another show taking its place anytime soon. If you enjoy epic fantasy but were turned off by the excessive violence and shocking scenes in Game of Thrones, The Wheel of Time might be a better fit. Beyond its rich world-building and magic, the series tackles complex themes without relying on sex, gore, or controversial relationships to hold your attention.

Set in the same universe as The Mighty Nein, but 20 years earlier, this action-comedy takes place on the continent of Tal’Dorei. The series follows Vox Machina, a group of adventurers who undertake dangerous quests to protect their world from monsters, dark magic, and widespread corruption.

Many fantasy shows have strong stories, but The Legend of Vox Machina stands out because it doesn’t have a single weak episode. Even though the last two seasons are still to come, the show has received overwhelmingly positive reviews since it debuted in 2022, which is a great sign for what’s to come.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms

A Genre-Bending Prequel That Hits All The Right Notes

Despite its fame, Game of Thrones is often seen as the weakest show in the series. Netflix’s Arcane is a prime example – this stunning science fantasy series, based on the game League of Legends, has achieved just that. The story centers on two sisters, Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Violet (Hailee Steinfeld), who uncover the troubling realities hidden beneath the surface of what appears to be a perfect world.

With its smooth animation, richly developed world, and incredible performances, Arcane is truly one of the best fantasy shows in recent years. However, it might not satisfy those who are extremely strict about fantasy tropes. The show’s artistic steampunk action is remarkable, but viewers shouldn’t expect it to be just like Game of Thrones. That series was unique, and Arcane carves its own path.
