Fans have been waiting a long time for news about the new X-Men movie, and now Marvel has announced the writing team. Director Jake Schreier recently shared that Joanna Calo, the showrunner of The Bear, and Lee Sung Jin, creator of the popular Netflix series Beef, are writing the script for the reboot.
Jake Schreier confirms writers for Marvel’s X-Men reboot script
During a discussion about the second season of Beef, a director involved with the show – who also works as an executive producer and director for Netflix – finally shared news about the upcoming X-Men movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Director Jake Schreier told Collider that the movie is still in development when asked for an update.
Schreier also revealed that Lee Sun Jin and Joanna Calo are involved in the upcoming X-Men reboot. He explained that both worked on the recent season of Beef – Lee Sung Jin as the show’s creator and Joanna Calo as a writer. They previously collaborated with him on Season 1 of Beef and the Thunderbolts project, and are currently working on a draft for the X-Men reboot, which he’s very excited about.
As a huge cinema fan, I was really encouraged to hear Jake Schreier speak so highly of the new X-Men writers. He said their current shows are two of the most compelling things on TV right now, which is fantastic! He also explained exactly why he thinks Lee and Calo are the perfect people to bring this project to life, and it makes a lot of sense when you consider their previous work.
According to Schreier, the best X-Men comics blend big ideas with relatable personal stories—almost like a soap opera. He believes that if writers can connect these two elements, making the characters’ motivations drive the ideological themes, that’s when the X-Men will truly feel authentic.
Marvel Studios hasn’t announced who will star in the upcoming X-Men reboot, and they haven’t revealed when it will be released yet.
