Wonder Woman’s strong introduction to the DC Universe feels believable because of the groundwork laid by the Supergirl story. With the DC Universe’s timeline already establishing Superman and briefly featuring Batman in Creature Commandos, it now seems very likely that we’ll soon see Wonder Woman’s origin story as well.
While Wonder Woman hasn’t been cast for the DC Universe yet, the franchise has shown it’s willing to introduce heroes before announcing who will play them in live-action movies. We saw this with Batman, who appeared in the animated series Creature Commandos before his live-action actor was revealed. This means Wonder Woman could potentially appear in the DCU at any time, even before a casting announcement.
Considering how things are set up now, the next DC Universe movie provides a great opportunity to seamlessly integrate Wonder Woman into the existing stories. This could allow filmmakers to explore Diana Prince’s origins and abilities right away, making her introduction feel natural and connected to the world that’s already been established.
Supergirl Sets Up A Near-Perfect Way For Wonder Woman To Make Her Official DCU Debut
Even if Wonder Woman doesn’t show up right away in the new DC Universe, the upcoming Supergirl movie is setting up a strong pattern: all new heroes will be linked to existing characters and stories.
The movie Supergirl follows the hero’s exciting journey through space and her personal development. It appears to be heavily inspired by the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic. However, early looks at the film also reveal Superman’s concern over Kara’s time away from Earth and suggest she won’t be able to establish a strong connection with people on Earth while she’s spending so much time off-planet.
Considering this, it would be a natural progression for Supergirl’s story and her relationship with Superman to introduce Wonder Woman into the DC Universe. Clark could try to bring Diana and Kara together, hoping Supergirl will connect with someone else who understands leaving her home to live among humans – similar to Wonder Woman, though their reasons for doing so are different.
Because the new DC Universe (DCU) is set in the present day with established heroes like Batman and Superman, and villains like Circe already active, it makes sense that Wonder Woman is also a working hero with existing relationships with her fellow heroes. This could lead to Superman seeking her help when he faces a problem he can’t handle alone.
Having Wonder Woman Interact With The DCU’s Heroes Could Make A Franchise Dream Come True Early On
As a big fan of Wonder Woman, I always felt like her time in the older DCEU was a little too short. We just didn’t get to see her team up with enough of the other heroes, and I really wanted to see those interactions! That’s why I’m so excited about her fresh start in the DCU. It makes perfect sense to have her jump right into a world where all these heroes already know each other and have a history – it’ll instantly give her story more depth and let her really play off those established relationships.
If the DC Universe successfully introduces Wonder Woman in the next few years and keeps her story moving forward, especially with the planned tie-in shows that share the same world, we could finally get a lasting, live-action Wonder Woman series. This would allow the franchise to really delve into all aspects of her character within a connected universe.
Many of Wonder Woman’s best comic book scenes happen when she’s interacting with the broader, often unusual, DC Universe – and the interesting relationships she forms with both heroes and villains. This creates a lot of potential for exciting future stories in the DC Universe, and introducing Supergirl now could help lay the groundwork for even more developments down the line.
