The midseason finale of Tracker brings back Keaton, the retired police officer who previously assisted in solving the Gina Pickett case. Meanwhile, Good Trouble is laying the groundwork for a major plotline when it returns, and introduces a new character who will also appear in Tracker.
Brent Sexton plays Keaton, who is trying to find his missing partner, Dobbs. Dobbs disappeared while investigating a farmer’s recent death. As Keaton and Colter follow Dobbs’ last known steps, they discover a disturbing body farm and uncover a larger criminal plot.
Keaton Returns, Asking Colter for Help Finding His Missing Old Partner
The new series, Tracker, begins with a dairy farmer being shot by an unidentified person. Meanwhile, Keaton, a retired police officer, is concerned because his former partner has disappeared, though no one else seems to share his worry.
Colter and Keaton went to Dobbs’ house to investigate. Keaton noticed Dobbs never leaves his back door unlocked, which seemed strange. While searching through Dobbs’ trash, Colter found a newspaper clipping about the farmer’s murder, prompting them to look into the case further.
When we checked out the farm, Colter spotted some fresh digging in the fields, which immediately raised red flags. The guy’s a survivalist, so he bypassed the ignition on an excavator and started digging to see what was going on. It wasn’t long before Keaton found a body. We had to call the police, and it turned out there were multiple bodies buried there. Luckily, Randy is amazing at what he does – he discovered the farmer had been getting paid off by a company secretly owned by an Armenian mob boss named Menassian. It’s a really disturbing situation, but we’re determined to get to the bottom of it.
Colter and Keaton separate when Keaton receives a call from Police Commissioner Ross Bogart. Bogart captivates the other officers with a story about a past case, but seems overly slick. He then asks Keaton to stop investigating now that the mob is involved, and suggests the Russians were responsible for a farmer’s murder, anticipating a potential mob war. Keaton is frustrated by being told to back off, but Colter is already heading to a meeting with Menassian.
Colter once again used a bold tactic to get information: he confronted someone involved in a crime, surprising them by jumping into the backseat of their car and pointing a gun. He’d successfully used this method before when questioning Ronnie Yates. This time, he used it on a driver connected to the Armenian mob, demanding to know Mennasian’s location. However, when Colter arrived at the location, he discovered Mennasian had been killed, executed with a gunshot.
While searching the apartment, Colter discovers a hidden camera. He follows the cable to locate where the footage is stored, allowing Randy to attempt a hack. Randy then sends Colter the video of Menassian’s death, revealing that Dobbs was the one who shot him. Reviewing the footage, Colter notices a reflection in a window, showing another person present – Mark Engelhardt, who is known as Lang.
Colter and Keaton Find Themselves on the Trail of an Assassin with A Mysterious Agenda
Emile Lang is a hired killer suspected of murdering a police officer named Lindstrom. Described as someone who follows his own strict rules – calm, precise, and organized – he was the shadowy figure who killed the farmer at the beginning of the show. Before Keaton recognized Lang in the security footage, Lang was interrogating Dobbs, having kidnapped him from Menassian’s location.
Lang questioned Dobbs about who had sent him to the farm. Dobbs claimed he’d simply seen an advertisement for it. Lang didn’t trust Dobbs and pressed him to reveal where the people he was looking for were. It became clear later that Lang was searching for Cassie Lindstrom, and his use of ‘they’ suggested he believed someone was with her. He followed up by asking Dobbs, “Who else is aware?”
Following a lead from Menassian’s phone – which Dobbs had stolen – Colter and Keaton arrive at a crash site and discover Dobbs injured on a riverbank. Before he dies, Dobbs hands Keaton the phone and reveals the situation isn’t connected to Russia. Keaton reports the accident and Dobbs’ death, and then he and Colter quickly resume their pursuit of Lang.
Lang pretended to be a gas company worker to get inside Bradley White’s house. Once White let him in, White immediately received a warning text message: “SOMEONE KNOWS. GET OUT.” But it was already too late. Lang quickly restrained White’s housekeeper and made White lead him to the garage, which was packed with shelves and boxes of files.
Shortly after Lang arrives, Keaton and Colter search the house. Keaton discovers the housekeeper, who says Lang was looking for a woman named Cassie Lindstrom. Meanwhile, Colter finds White dead in the garage. After releasing the housekeeper, Keaton begins checking the area outside. He notices a car hidden behind a tree, and then sees Lang moving one of the file boxes from the garage to the car.
Lang is systematically uncovering the truth after the farmer’s death, and appears to be taking apart the criminal network Colter and Keaton accidentally got involved in. Meanwhile, Randy and Reenie discovered that Dobbs was also being paid by the same company linked to the Armenian mob. They’ve also found several other accounts that received money from this criminal operation and are now determined to find out who else was involved – possibly even the police commissioner who repeatedly told Keaton to back off.
Tracker’s Winter Finale Leaves Colter and Keaton in Mortal Danger
Keaton saw Lang putting things into the trunk of a stolen car and immediately opened fire. Lang shot back, hitting Keaton in the stomach. Hearing the gunfire, Colter ran outside to find Keaton wounded on the ground. Keaton passed out, but Colter managed to revive him and quickly put him in the car. While rushing to the hospital, Keaton began coughing up blood and moaning in pain.
Colter tries to keep Keaton focused by asking questions – about the housekeeper and their plan to find Lang. Keaton feels bad for involving Colter in the situation, but Colter assures him he’ll be alright. While driving along a tree-lined road, they’re suddenly fired upon. A bullet goes through the windshield and hits Colter, causing him to lose consciousness. The car veers off the road, crashes through the woods, and plunges off a small cliff, ultimately landing upside down.
The episode ends abruptly as the car rocks precariously. Afterward, both Colter and Keaton are wounded, likely from gunshots and the car crash itself. It’s unclear who shot them – could it be Lang, or someone connected to the mob trying to silence them? While Mark Engelhardt is joining the show as a character with his own moral code, suggesting Lang might not be the main villain, Lang has proven he’s willing to kill anyone who stands in his way.
When Does Tracker Return in 2026?
If things go wrong, Colter will be injured, and Keaton might not be able to be saved. If the attacker goes back to the crash site to ensure Keaton is dead, Colter could be forced to escape without him, effectively ending Keaton’s life. Meanwhile, as Reenie and Randy investigate further, they may discover even more police officers are being bribed by the Armenian mob, making it risky to ask for their help in finding Colter.
Along with the introduction of a new character named Lang, Tracker has cast Kathleen Robertson as Maxine, a high-powered lawyer. Maxine initially approaches Reenie with what seems like basic legal assistance for a class-action lawsuit, but it soon becomes apparent she has a hidden agenda. These developments will likely follow the season two finale. As two new actors join CBS’s most-watched show, fans can also look forward to seeing a returning character when Tracker comes back.
Billie Matalon will be returning to the show, and Hartley has hinted at a significant role for her, mentioning she’s assisting Colter with something interesting. Additionally, Hartley and showrunner Elwood Reid have teased a storyline where Colter will face trouble with the law. Fans can expect exciting developments when Tracker returns on March 1st at 9 pm on CBS.
