James Gunn is leading DC towards a new shared universe, but there’s still a possibility Zack Snyder’s vision could make a comeback – and a decision today could be key. Gunn’s DC Universe has already launched its first three projects, all of which he wrote and directed, clearly showing the new path DC is taking.
Zack Snyder directed three DC movies and produced five more, including James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Following the positive reception of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, many fans are hoping for a continuation of his vision on Netflix. With Warner Bros. Discovery considering offers from various studios, it makes sense for the DC universe to be included in whichever company ultimately acquires it.
Today Marks An Important Warner Bros. Discovery Deadline
For a while now, Comcast, Paramount, and Netflix have been the leading contenders to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. Each company submitted an initial bid, which Warner Bros. Discovery reviewed. They’ve now asked for improved offers, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the new deadline for those bids is today, December 1st.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Paramount wants to buy all of Warner Bros. Discovery, but Comcast and Netflix have different ideas. They’re reportedly interested in acquiring Warner’s studios and streaming services, rather than the entire company. As a result, DC Studios would be included in whichever company’s offer is successful, potentially keeping the possibility of a DC Snyderverse revival at Netflix alive for fans.
What Happens Next For The DC Snyderverse’s Possible Return?
If Zack Snyder’s cinematic universe is going to be revived, Netflix is currently the most likely studio to make it happen. Neither Paramount nor Comcast has a strong existing relationship with Snyder that would suggest they’d bring back the often-debated superhero series. Once negotiations reach their deadline, Reuters reports that Warner Bros. Discovery should begin exclusive discussions with one of the interested studios.
DC fans eager to see the Snyderverse return should watch for news about which studio Warner Bros. Discovery chooses after December 1st. We might find out if the Snyderverse could actually happen as early as this week, depending on when Warner makes an announcement.
Look, I’m really hoping things work out, and it sounds like Netflix might be the frontrunner to bring the Snyderverse back. But even if Warner Bros. starts talking seriously with them, it’s definitely not a done deal. Netflix has cancelled Snyder projects before, so I’m still nervous about whether his DC vision will actually get another chance. It’s exciting, but I’m trying to stay realistic.
