The Princess Diaries 3 could be arriving sooner than expected.
The first Princess Diaries movie came out in 2001 and was a big hit. It told the story of Mia Thermopolis (played by Anne Hathaway), an ordinary teenager from San Francisco who discovers she’s a princess. The movie helped launch Anne Hathaway’s career, and the series as a whole became a beloved, modern fairytale for many young people in the early 2000s, with two popular sequels following the original.
While speaking with Variety at the Gold Gala, director Adele Lim hinted that several original cast members will be back for The Princess Diaries 3. She also mentioned that the team is currently finalizing the filming schedule and production plans.
If you enjoyed the first two films, I think you’ll really like this one. We’re planning to film on location in Europe, which will allow us to showcase the beautiful country of Genovia as never before.
We really wanted to get this story right, especially because so many people love this franchise. There are plenty of movies where princesses get their dreams fulfilled, but not so many that show queens achieving their full potential. That’s exactly what we’re aiming for – a story about a woman confidently embracing her power.
More to come…
