An actor in the upcoming 2026 film, The Mandalorian, has shared that they won’t be featured prominently when it releases next year. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to launch a new chapter for Star Wars in theaters, being the first new movie in the franchise in over five years. While the film will include well-known characters from the Mando series, such as Din Djarin and Grogu, it’s still unclear who will be the main focus of the story.
During a recent appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Sigourney Weaver, star of The Mandalorian & Grogu, revealed she doesn’t have much screen time in the new movie. She explained, “I was only scheduled for a few days,” suggesting her role is relatively small.

She mentioned receiving a drink from someone who seemed very different from her, and hinted that the quick bar scene featuring her character in the upcoming 2026 blockbuster might be her only appearance in it.
I was so excited to be there! I only planned to stay a few days, but it was amazing being around so many unique creatures. Someone even offered me a drink – they looked very different from me, with a completely unusual head!
Horowitz: “You get to work with both Pedro and Grogu, quality time with ‘Mandalorian and Grogu’?”
Weaver: “I’m the luckiest girl in the world.”
In the upcoming Mandalorian movie, Carl Weathers will portray a new character named Ward. He’s a New Republic colonel and former Rebel Alliance pilot. While his exact role is unknown, the movie’s teaser suggests he’ll be the one who sends Din Djarin and Grogu on their main quest.
The new movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026. Starring Pedro Pascal, Wevaer, Jeremy Allen-White, and Jonny Coyne, the film follows Mando and Grogu as they travel to different planets after the Empire has been defeated.
Ranking the Confirmed Mandalorian & Grogu Characters By Expected Screentime
Trapper Wolf

Trapper Wolf, a character first introduced in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, will also be featured in the upcoming Mandalorian movie, as confirmed by creator Dave Filoni.
The X-wing pilot from The New Republic, played by a creative executive at Lucasfilm, won’t have a major role in the new movie. Instead, it’s expected to be a brief, enjoyable appearance for dedicated Star Wars fans.
Zeb

Fans will be excited to see Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels return, though he’s appearing in a new way. Zeb, a strong Lasat warrior, was a key member of the Ghost crew in the popular animated series, fighting against the Empire in the years between the prequel and original Star Wars movies.
Zeb made a quick appearance in Season 3 of The Mandalorian. He’ll be in the new Mando movie and seems to have at least one action sequence, but he isn’t expected to be a central character.
Imperial Warlord (Jonny Coyne’s character)

It’s hard to say how much screen time Johnny Coyner’s character, currently known only as the Imperial Warlord, will have in The Mandalorian & Grogu. He might just make a brief appearance as a hologram, or he could play a major role in the story.
So far, the only thing we know about the movie’s story is that Din Djarin is investigating what’s left of the Empire. Because of this, it’s likely that Coyne’s character is somehow involved with that Imperial remnant, and could even be the movie’s main villain.
Rotta

Okay, this is wild! Remember Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son, from the Clone Wars movie back in 2008? Well, I just read that Jeremy Allen-White – yes, The Bear’s Jeremy Allen-White – is going to play an older version of him! It’s so cool to think about a character from that animated film getting a live-action update with such a fantastic actor. I’m genuinely excited to see what he does with the role.
The character Rotta is expected to play a major role in the new movie. Actor Carl Weathers hinted in a recent interview that his alien character, resembling a slug, will travel with Din Djarin (Mando) and Grogu throughout the film, potentially appearing on screen as much as the two main characters.
Grogu

Grogu has been a major reason Star Wars has remained popular for the past five years, following the release of the last film. This cute and powerful Force-using character has been the face of Lucasfilm’s streaming shows since 2019 and is now heading to theaters.
Since his name is in the title alongside Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian, and many fans are excited to see him, expect to see a lot of this brave, green Jedi apprentice in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.
The Mandalorian

Pedro Pascal returns as The Mandalorian (Din Djarin) in the new film, and he’ll be joined by Grogu throughout the entire story. Din Djarin began as a lone bounty hunter in Season 1 of The Mandalorian, but his journey with Grogu has transformed him into something much more.
In the upcoming movie, Din Djarin and Grogu will embark on a grand adventure, traveling through space to confront a remaining faction of the Empire that’s threatening the New Republic.
