The legendary vampire story from the comics is returning to its original setting, and the town of Barrow is excited to welcome it back.

The comic *30 Days of Night: Falling Sun* #1, from IDW Publishing and created by Rodney Barnes, Steve Niles, Chris Shehan, Xenon Honchar, and Alex Ray, returns to the remote Alaskan town of Barrow. As the town prepares for its annual month of darkness, young Jalen adjusts to life with his uncle, Calvin. Meanwhile, those who remember a past horror try to prevent it from repeating. However, a large group of vampires is also preparing to attack Barrow, even if it causes conflict among themselves.

30 Days of Night: Falling Sun is the newest addition to the 30 Days of Night story, which started in 2002 with a comic miniseries by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith. That original story took place in a town where the sun doesn’t rise for a full month each year. It focused on Sheriff Eben Oleman and his wife, Stella, as they fought to survive against terrifying attackers. Their struggle led to brutal battles and a memorable conclusion that became well-known in the horror genre.

Since the release of *30 Days of Night*, the story has expanded in many ways through different media. Besides the movie and its sequel, IDW Publishing has released dozens of comic books set in the *30 Days of Night* world. These include yearly special editions, crossovers with franchises like *The X-Files* and *Criminal Macabre*, and an impressive 13 spin-off comic series, starting with *30 Days of Night: Dark Days* in 2003.

He’s escaping gang violence in Los Angeles, but he probably won’t find peace in Barrow… especially when night falls.
