Following a shocking season finale, season 5 of The Boys is beginning to reveal what happens next. The end of season 4 left the main characters in a dire situation, as most were captured by Homelander’s forces. Frenchie and Kimiko were taken by the villains from Gen V and split up, Hughie was captured by Cindy, and M.M. unexpectedly came face-to-face with Love Sausage. Only Starlight managed to escape.

The crew grew apart from Billy Butcher as he fully became “Joe Kessler,” embracing his newfound superpowers. He violently killed Victoria Neuman and vowed to wipe out all supes with a dangerous virus he’d obtained. Butcher then drove off alone, appearing headed for a violent and likely fatal confrontation.

The Boys Season 5‘s Trailer Confirms Everybody Escapes

The season 4 finale of The Boys left viewers wondering about the fate of Hughie, M.M., Frenchie, and Kimiko – and the new trailer for season 5 reveals they all managed to escape captivity. The trailer shows Hughie imprisoned in one of Tek Knight’s camps, wearing a gray prison uniform. We also see Starlight, also held in a similar camp, using her powers to create a massive electrical surge with the surrounding lights.

Based on the trailer for The Boys season 5, it appears Starlight, potentially with help from her fellow resistance members, rescues Hughie before he’s supposed to be released, and the two are seen working together in several scenes.

It’s uncertain if M.M., Kimiko, and Frenchie are being held in the same location – it seems unlikely, given Kimiko’s powers and the potential for conflict if they were all together. However, the trailer for The Boys season 5 shows the group reunited, suggesting they all eventually escape.

It’s good that season 5 of The Boys won’t waste time getting the team back together. The show is at its best when the whole group is interacting – they have great chemistry and feel like a messed-up family. Seeing them all stuck in separate prisons for multiple episodes would have been boring, especially since this is the final season and there’s a lot to cover.

The trailer for The Boys season 5 has unfortunately lessened the suspense created by the season 4 finale, especially regarding the fate of the captured heroes. While viewers likely expected a rescue and reunion, seeing it happen in the trailer diminishes the impact of last season’s cliffhanger.

The Boys Get Back Together With Billy Butcher

At the end of The Boys season 4, Butcher’s behavior made it seem like he’d crossed a line. He killed Neuman, intimidated his teammates, stole a deadly virus targeting Kimiko and Starlight, and left the team vulnerable to Vought. All of this indicated he’d irreparably damaged his relationships with the other members of the group.

The trailer for The Boys season 5 shows Butcher reuniting with the team, and despite their ongoing issues, they’re willing to work with him again. While Hughie and the others still disagree with Butcher on many things, they realize they have a much better chance of defeating Homelander if they put their differences aside and team up. It looks like they’ve reached a temporary agreement, even though they don’t necessarily see eye-to-eye.

Despite everything, Butcher remains focused on one thing: completing his mission. Essentially, he wants to kill every superhero, and he’s willing to push his team to the absolute limit to make it happen. In the original The Boys comic books, Butcher even killed members of his own team – M.M., Frenchie, and Kimiko – to pursue his goal of eliminating all supes. It will be interesting, and a little frightening, to see if he’s willing to do the same in the Prime Video series of The Boys.
