Gotham City is facing its darkest hour. Mayor Pamela Isley, abandoned by her former supporters, is making a desperate attempt to regain control, which will likely destroy the city. Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Vandal Savage is using the chaos – and his own private army – to eliminate both Batman and his allies. This all unfolds over a single, terrifying night in “Batman: Bad Seeds,” an event that threatens to transform Gotham into a dangerous, prehistoric jungle, while its heroes are forced to operate from the shadows.

With Gotham City plunged into darkness after a power outage, the creative team of Matt Fraction (known for Batman), G. Willow Wilson (Poison Ivy), Giuseppe Camuncoli (Absolute Evil), and Cliff Rathburn (The Walking Dead) launch a gripping first chapter, hinting that what follows the night might be even more terrifying.

Okay, so this is issue three of what’s basically a really dark comic. Every week they print it in full color, and honestly, it’s a trip. This time, some mysterious guy told us to really look at what’s happening with our main character – he’s got a lot more knowledge now – as he’s forced through this incredibly dangerous mission. The place he’s stuck in is…well, imagine a living, breathing nightmare, a whole country gone wrong, filled with awful stuff. We’re talking about a world where logic is dead, there’s constant rebellion, and everyone has these ridiculously gross teeth. Demons are just eating everything, including crumbling statues, and people are contorting themselves into positions that would make a doctor think magic is real. Seriously, it’s messed up. Okay, so picture this: I’m Darren Burroughs, 23 years old, from Audubon, Pennsylvania, and I’m basically a prodigy. They sent me over as a diplomatic aide – which is just a cover – to train with this weird, almost forgotten part of British intelligence called Division Nine. It’s supposed to handle anything…paranormal. But in the real intel world, people who know call them something else…Black Tower. It’s a name that carries some weight, let me tell you.

In 2026, with cyberattacks and drone warfare commonplace, a dangerous plot is underway to steal a king’s ancient remains and disable a magical barrier protecting Britain from invasion. Led by the mysterious Alistair Romeo, a team of unlikely heroes from the Black Tower must navigate a world where magic and espionage intersect, racing against the clock to combat hidden, supernatural conflicts that lie beneath the surface of modern warfare.

Award-winning writer Ram V (known for Detective Comics and The Swamp Thing) and celebrated artist Mike Perkins (The Swamp Thing, The Bat-Man: First Knight) have joined forces to create a modern spy story with a touch of Vertigo’s signature magical style—a message, if you will, from the highest authority.
