The Batman came out in March 2022, and if everything goes according to plan, the sequel will be released five years later. This is optimistic, as it depends on the script and film being excellent. Despite this, news and speculation about who will be in the next movie are already circulating quickly.
It was recently confirmed that Sebastian Stan will play Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part 2. Even if his version of the character doesn’t suffer the iconic acid attack, with so many other casting choices already announced, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see Dick Grayson/Robin make his first appearance in the DC universe in this film.
The Batman: Part 2 is Jam-Packed with Characters
The casting of Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent and Scarlett Johansson in an unspecified role—likely Gilda Dent or Andrea Beaumont—strongly suggests these characters will be central to the plot of The Batman: Part 2. The film will almost certainly continue to explore corruption in Gotham City, and introducing Harvey Dent offers a compelling way to do so.
There’s also speculation that Dr. Jeremiah Arkham or the Court of Owls could be the main villain in The Batman: Part 2. Given that so many characters and plot details are still secret, the movie might end up feeling overcrowded, leaving little room for a new Robin to have a significant role.
Say Goodbye to Robin in The Batman: Part 2
It wasn’t previously known if any of Batman’s former Robins—Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, Carrie Kelley, or Damian Wayne—would be in The Batman: Part 2. However, the first Batman film strongly suggested a connection between Bruce Wayne and the young son of the late Don Mitchell Jr., even saving the boy from an accident at his father’s funeral.
The next Batman movie could follow a similar path to the comic book story Batman: Dark Victory, introducing multiple villains and the character of Robin (Dick Grayson). However, it remains to be seen if the film can effectively adapt the scope of The Long Halloween’s sequel – which was a lengthy story – within a runtime of under three hours. It will be fascinating to see which characters appear in the sequel and how their stories unfold.
