If the rumors about the villain in The Batman – Part II are accurate, it could be a threat as formidable as the one seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Matt Reeves’ The Batman successfully revisited the Batman mythos with a dark and realistic approach fourteen years after The Dark Knight set a high standard. Despite that, The Batman established its own unique identity and built a solid base for a potential three-movie series.
The movie The Batman includes five of Batman’s most famous enemies: The Riddler, Penguin, Joker, Catwoman, and Carmine Falcone. These villains all have important parts in Robert Pattinson’s first film as Batman. While Penguin and another villain are likely to be back in The Batman – Part II, everyone is wondering who the main villain will be. Recent reports suggest that Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, will be appearing in the sequel.
The Batman Part II’s Two-Face Can Be The Villain The Dark Knight’s Harvey Dent Wasn’t
Aaron Eckhart’s Harvey Dent Dies Before He Can Become The Iconic DC Villain
As a huge Batman fan, I’m really intrigued by the idea of Harvey Dent showing up in The Batman – Part II. If he does become Two-Face, I’m hoping they do something different from Aaron Eckhart’s version in The Dark Knight. While Eckhart was fantastic and Nolan told a great story, I always felt like that Two-Face didn’t get enough time to really shine as a villain – he was gone too quickly, you know? I’d love to see a Two-Face who feels like a bigger, more lasting threat.
In “The Dark Knight,” Aaron Eckhart’s Two-Face dies before people realize he’s turned evil, becoming a symbol of justice for Gotham. Once that purpose is served, his story ends. However, the Harvey Dent appearing in “The Batman – Part II” could be similarly realistic, but might allow for a deeper look into the truly villainous side of Two-Face.
No Live-Action DC Movie Has Fully Explored Harvey Dent’s Two Sides
Harvey Dent’s Dichotomy Deserves Enough Screentime
Although Harvey Dent is a key figure in Batman’s story, movies haven’t fully explored the contrast between his good and evil sides. In Batman Forever, Two-Face, played by Tommy Lee Jones, is mostly portrayed as a showy villain, with glimpses of his past shown only in old clips. The Dark Knight does the opposite, focusing on Harvey as a symbol of hope before his fall, but it quickly moves through his time as Two-Face. Neither film fully delves into the complexity of his dual nature.
Both Batman Forever and The Dark Knight focus on either the heroic or villainous side of Harvey Dent, but not both. The next Batman film could be different, potentially showing equal time with both the man Harvey Dent was and the villain Two-Face he became. Seeing how Harvey Dent ultimately turns against Batman could also be a fresh take on the character’s story.
