She’s never been afraid to be bold and attention-grabbing in her films, and she’s eager to give her fans more of what they enjoy – including a follow-up to her latest steamy thriller.

Paul Feig’s new film, The Housemaid, is a darkly funny and thrilling ride, and it definitely showcases Sydney Sweeney‘s talent. Currently playing in theaters and earning positive reviews (a B CinemaScore and a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes), the movie stars Sweeney as Millie, a live-in housekeeper for the wealthy Winchester couple, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. What starts as an ideal job quickly spirals into a dangerous nightmare filled with seduction, hidden secrets, and violent clashes.

Freida McFadden’s novel is what first attracted her to the story, as she shared with Variety at the movie’s premiere.

Wow, this book was incredible! From the very first page, I was hooked. I honestly planned to just read a few chapters, but I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting – I couldn’t put it down! The story was so juicy and delicious, and the characters and plot twists were amazing. I was completely invested and knew I had to share it with everyone!

Sydney Sweeney and director Paul Feig are hoping the movie is successful enough to warrant a sequel. Sweeney expressed their desire to give fans what they want, noting the passionate fanbase of the book series and their eagerness to create another film. Feig echoed this sentiment, saying they’re prepared to make a sequel if this movie performs well.

Paul Feig Says Sydney Sweeney Was “One of My Heroes”

When Paul Feig received the script for The Housemaid, Sydney Sweeney was already cast as Millie. Feig, who also directed Bridesmaids, was happy about this, describing her as “amazing” to collaborate with. He went on to say:

Wow, working with her was just incredible! She’s such a sweet person and honestly, the most professional person I’ve ever encountered. She always comes to set totally prepared and ready to work, and she just elevates everything with her talent. I seriously look up to her – she’s one of my heroes, no doubt about it.

Feig wasn’t the only one speaking highly of Sweeney in the film; her co-star, Seyfried, also shared enthusiastic praise, stating:

During some early filming tests, we quickly noticed we were the same height and wore the same size shoes, which was a cool coincidence. I think we connected so easily because we both loved the book we were adapting and were thrilled to be making the movie. Plus, we approach work in a similar way – neither of us takes things too seriously, and that’s what made working together so enjoyable.

The new thriller, The Housemaid, hit theaters this weekend and is expected to be among the top three highest-grossing films domestically, following Avatar: Fire & Ash and the animated film David.
