In Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing, Helen Culver became a significant figure in the life of the main character, Sully, played by an actress who is well-known for her small-screen roles. The series, a compelling Canadian family drama, primarily focuses on Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan), a doctor who moves back to her hometown after a legal scandal nearly destroyed her career in Boston. Upon returning, she reconnects with her father, Sully, but it’s evident they have strained relations.
Initially mending things up in seasons one and two, Sully encounters a new romantic figure named Helen Culver in season three, marking a new stage in his life. As the story unfolds in season three, it becomes evident that Helen is not just a passing character but becomes an integral part of the Sullivan family circle.
On the 8th of July, 2025, Netflix U.S. introduced Seasons 1 and 2 of Sullivan’s Crossing. The show features Morgan Kohan, Chad Michael Murray from Freaky Friday, Tom Jackson, Scott Patterson, and Andrea Menard as its main cast. Later, on August 11, 2025, Netflix made Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing available.
Who Plays Helen Culver on Sullivan’s Crossing?
In the third season of “Sullivan’s Crossing,” Kate Vernon vividly portrays the character Helen Culver. Throughout all 10 episodes, she plays a significant role in the lives of Sully (played by series regular Scott Patterson) and Maggie.
Kate is the child of the late Canadian actor John Vernon, famously recognized for his captivating performance as Dean Vernon Wormer in the 1978 film “Animal House“. Besides this iconic role, the actor made appearances in films such as “Airplane II: The Sequel“, “Dirty Harry“, and “The Outlaw Josey Wales“.
Despite making a significant impression in multiple film productions, Vernon carved out her niche on television. Following standout guest appearances in shows like “Family Ties,” “Dallas,” and “Remington Steele,” Vernon’s most memorable role was embodying Lorraine Prescott over 25 episodes of the CBS series “Falcon Crest.
Not only did the actress’ TV resume grow, but she also appeared in additional hit series such as “Who’s the Boss?”, “Nash Bridges”, and “L.A. Law”. In 2004, she struck gold once more on television when she was cast as Ellen Tigh in “Battlestar: Galactica”.
In an interview with Steve Eramo of Sci-Fi and TV Talk in April 2009, Vernon expressed that portraying Ellen Tigh was “the most rewarding role” of her career. She shared that she always looked forward to bringing the character to life on-screen.
Among all the roles I’ve played throughout my career, taking on Ellen was undeniably one of the most rewarding. When I initially auditioned for this part, I didn’t hold any grand expectations. The producers hinted that there might only be a few episodes, but as fate would have it, I found myself revisiting the set time and again. Each new script felt like unwrapping a treasure trove, for the writers had masterfully woven intrigue around Ellen’s mischievousness, feistiness, knack for troublemaking, and the complex dynamics of her tumultuous relationship with her husband – aspects that kept me eagerly anticipating the next installment.
Furthermore, Vernon has managed to collaborate with notable personalities such as Willem Dafoe, Edward James Olmos, Christopher Lee, and Denzel Washington in the TV and movie industry.
In a thrilling turn of events, Vernon is poised to delve into the realm of horror, with plans to feature in a chilling monster anthology titled “God of Frogs“. A launch date for this anticipated production remains undisclosed at present.
Why Helen Culver Is Crucial in Sullivan Crossing Season 3’s Story
Helen Culver, a renowned author seeking respite from urban chaos, makes her way to Sullivan’s Crossing. At first, she was merely a guest staying in a cabin to spark creativity for her writing endeavors. However, an encounter with Sully led to some initial friction but eventually blossomed into a strong friendship.
In Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing, we delved deeper into the relationship between Helen and Sully. After nearly losing his life at the end of Season 2, Helen played an essential part in guiding Sully through this second chance at life. Her presence provided Sully with a renewed sense of direction, aiding him in becoming a more responsible father and embracing a fresh beginning.
In the finale of Season 3, Helen and Sully’s relationship took an unexpected twist as Sully consented to accompany Helen on a journey to Ireland, following her discovery of a promising prospect there. Additionally, they both openly admitted their romantic sentiments towards one another, further complicating their bond.
Traveling to Ireland with Helen resulted in Sully relinquishing his position as head of the campground, with responsibilities now falling on Cal and Maggie. Whether Cal and Maggie will reappear in Season 4 remains uncertain, but it appears that Sully’s personal development alongside Helen may mark a conclusive point for his story arc.
