We’ve known about this spin-off for a while, but details were scarce. Now, the Duffer Brothers have finally shared what the new series will be about, and it all begins with the controversial Season 5 finale.

The creators previously hinted that the series finale would offer a clue about a future spin-off. While fans have been speculating ever since, they’ve now confirmed the new show will center around the strange rock in a briefcase – the one that initially set Henry on the path to becoming Vecna. They shared this information in a recent interview with Variety.

Yes, we are planning a spin-off series. You guessed right, and we’ve been getting a lot of questions about it! We want to clarify that the spin-off will explore some unanswered questions and explain things people have been wondering about. However, it won’t be a continuation of the Mind Flayer storyline or focus on existing mysteries in great detail. It’s a completely new story with its own mythology, but it will tie up some loose ends from the original series.

The Mysterious Rock Leads to Henry Becoming Vecna

We’ve learned not only where the new spin-off series will begin its story—without any familiar faces—but also when the Duffer Brothers plan to start working on the next season of Stranger Things. And it’s happening sooner than you might think.

We’re resuming work on the project next Monday. We’ve been making progress intermittently, and we’re planning a short break before getting back to it.

Matt Duffer says the best part of making the show is actually the creative process itself. Releasing it is always stressful, no matter the outcome, and it’s honestly his least favorite part. He and the team are really enthusiastic about starting fresh with completely new characters, a new setting, and a whole new story.

The Duffer Brothers recently told Deadline which spin-off ideas for Stranger Things aren’t moving forward, despite what fans might be hoping for. Ross Duffer clarified that a spin-off centered around Hopper and Montauk is not in development. He explained the Montauk reference was simply a nod to longtime fans who know that was the original setting for the show. He also confirmed that a spin-off following Holly and the younger characters is also not planned.
